Debbie's Story
Life
Well, I haven't moved far from the old school! I live in Harvey county, just outside of Newton. I married Larry Church in 1982. We have been together 24 years, believe it or not! We have 1 son, Ray, who is 18 & a senior at Newton High School. We are still very active with the horses in 4-H, trail riding, training & showing. I tried my hand at managing a horse stable for a few years, but the stable sold & & ran out of steam. It was hard to spend anytime with my own family & horses.
Our life has had the normal ups & downs. Our biggest hurdle was the lose of our home in Dec. 15, 1989 to fire. We had no insurance & lost everything we owned. But, the awesome people of ...Expand for more
Halstead & the surrounding communities helped us pull ourselves up by our bootstraps & put our lives back together. In July of the same year my brother Bill Young was burned severely in a demolition derby accident. He is doing fine. But, it put our fire into perspective.
My parents are still living west of Halstead. Dad is still farming & driving the road grader, & yes, Mom is STILL driving that damn school bus & making cakes. My brother Bill lives on my grandparents farm at Whitewater & has 3 children.
