Larry's Story

I've been meaning to upgrade my classmates membership and post a profile for some time, and I guess that time has now come. My intent is to reconnect at just a 'hello, how are you doing' level with the people that I knew in HS. I'm not sure how it is with most of you, but after I left VA in '73 I haven't spoken to a single person from PGHS. Funny, just today in a hotel in Phoenix I met a guy in town to officiate a wrestling match at ASU who's from Goochland. Anyway, here's the short version. I spent 73-76 as a failing community college student, then enlisted in the Army as a medic, went on to flight school in 81, then after competing my degree I finished my 20 years in the military flying in the Coast Guard. Retired, moved to Vero Beach, FL, instructing for FlightSafety ground school from 96-99. Then moved to Charlotte, NC and began a career with US Airways as a ground school instructor. Furloughed from 03 to 07 and flew EMS out of Greenville, SC, and Frisco, TX. Then recalled to US Airways, chose to go to the Phoenix (old America West) , and have been doing that up to now. Planning on leaving US Airways, now American Airlines, this summer and catch up with my wife and younger son (he's only in the 6th grade!) in Vero Beach, where we moved back to a couple years ago. Hey, I was one of the invisibles in HS, but I do have great memories. Band of cou...Expand for more

For some reason Jackie Payne (I hope I have his first name right) has been on my mind for the past 40 years...I hope you are doing well where ever you are. Fred and Joanne Jordan...want to say hi to them. I did a quick email with Fran Moore, sister of my HS gf, Debbie, a couple years ago....Debbie looks to have a great family. I'll probably come back online and say something on the pages of those peeps I knew back then. That's all for now - Larry Update on Aug 31, 2022 Retired from US Airways/American Airlines 6 years ago this month. Haven't worked a day since. I did do a little bit of home schooling for our now 20 year old (do I win the "who has the youngest child contest?) but he's now out on his own. Other son has a good job and is 28. We're in Vero Beach, FL, which is nice but kinda slow and not a lot of energy. I don't know about the rest of you, but my memory is fading a bit. I read what I wrote above about the wrestling coach from Goochland and I don't remember meeting him writing that note, or even where the heck Goochland is. But I do have maybe 15 people I was friends with and those memories seem to be etched in my mind. Other than the memory thing I'm feeling like I'm 35 years old. I go to the doctor once a year because I use a CPAP. No Vax, No Mask, No Fear :) That'a the update!
