History:
Began applied acoustics research on the effects of environmental noise on people in 1986 for the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, USA. Managed a large-scale research program on community annoyance, sleep disturbance and health effects due to aircraft noise exposure. Retired from a career as a Research Psychologist for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory and now do private noise research and noise policy consulting internationally. Mentored by Dr. Henning von Gierke, one of the worldÂs foremost experts on acoustics and vibration, and conceptual leader of U.S. environmental noise policy-making in the 1970Âs.
35+ scientific publications and conference presentations on various applied acoustics topics
- Community Annoyance prediction curve adopted as a US national Standard
- Published a new Sleep Disturbance prediction curve for aircraft noise exposures
- Developed Assessment System for Aircraft Noise (ASAN) Â computer system to accurately predict noise exposure and noise effects on humans, animals and historical structures. Used for U.S. Air Force operations planning and noise mitigation.
- Publications on international, national and local noise policy issues and consulting with foreign governments on noise policy issues
- Continually involved in professional support activities, including planning and organizing major scientific conferences both in the U.S. and internationally, organizing and Chairing over 20 special technical sessions at scientific conferences,
