Lawrence's Story
Spent 6-1/2 years in the Air Force beginning Sept 1966. Was in Veterinary, which not only dealt with the Sentry - and later Scout - dogs, but military pets and food facility sanitation and quality inspections just like the USDA.
The last 6 months of active duty, I trained in computer programming while in Miami. These were the days when there was no college-level degree programs. After graduating in Mar 1973 and until Mar 1986 I worked at 2 companies in Miami and 2 more in the Rochester area.
In 1984 - at the 2nd Rochester company - I had a client needing help with a purchasing application. That client was the NY Power Authority's James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Oswego. A couple years later, I was offered a contract position in the fledgling FitzPatrick Computer Services department. So I started in 1986 and finally became a full-time NY employee in 1995.
Late 2000 a company named Entergy purchased the plant and I transitioned into their corporate setup. While I started as a site-based IT employee, by 2008 I was on a team of 8 people supporting 9 sites (11 reactors) in work management, records management, engineering and other disciplines.
And there I stayed ... in Oswego (with trips to other loc...Expand for more
ations), with a boss in Jackson, MS and a dotted line to the local IT Manager. Several reorganizations occurred through the years and one in 2013 was my undoing with a retirement effective Jan 1, 2014. <grin>
The wife had passed in 2011, so when I found all this free time I resumed my old hobby of building static models. Mainly cars (detailed as much as possible) and sailing ships. Also amateur genealogy and reading (hard copy and electronic). Throughout the years I have also tested software packages in gaming, production, communications, online communities and more. Totally loved doing that!

I'd like to take this time to remember one of our classmates - the late Beverly (Nurse) Richardson. Not many (if any) knew that she & I knew each other from the age of 3 or 4. We first met in the early '50s at Norton Village when our families lived there. We went to the same school for a couple years then we both moved in 1955.
In September 1955 I started school at Hoover Drive Elementary (now Odyssey?) where Bev and I were reunited. After that we were in the same class. When we started Middle and Senior High, we were in homeroom, study hall or a class every day. She was a good friend to me and I miss her.
