Larry's Story

My e-mail: dean790 at Yahoo dot com. Leave me a message or send me an e-mail any time. I would enjoy hearing from some of my old school mates, friends or visitors. What can I say about myself? I am really a simple person who enjoys the simple things life has to offer. I appreciate the arts and find social science very interesting. I prefer facts over fiction, and have always admired different cultures. I am just my own self, and I don't pretend to be anyone else. I like to learn from others and share my own philosophies. I never have been a big socializer, but I do enjoy good communication. While growing up in Duncan Oklahoma I attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. A picture of my kindergarten class is posted in my photos. Duncan Junior High School was a lot of fun. Three particular girls made Junior High very memorable for me - Jamie D., Jackie P., and Donna B. Jacky was my first real girlfriend and the first girl I ever kissed. Duncan High School and Red River Area Vo-Tech School bring back some good memories too. I really wish I would have studied harder and paid more attention to my academics instead of partying so much. I am sure it would have made a big difference in my life. Oh well, too bad we can go back and change our past. I can honestly say that I learned just as much outside of the classroom as I did inside the classroom while growing up. My father was 50 years older than I and schooled me in the art of life's experience. After graduating from Duncan High School in 82 and Red River Area Vo-Tech in 83, I enrolled at Cameron University. This was a great move because I only knew a few people at Cameron, and it allowd me to gain some independence while living in the dorms. Although, my motivation for going to Cameron was not focused deeply on education. Kinematics and Strength of Materials had to be my two toughest classes. I really enjoyed Residential Archicture, Descriptive Geometry and Psychology. I finished my degree requirements in December 86 and graduated from Cameron on my birthday in May 1987 with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Design/Drafting. While attending Cameron and working for a civil engineering firm (see below), I became involved with the sport power lifting and won a few tournaments in the 181 weight pound class. I lifted with two groups of power lifters - Coby's Gym in Lawton and the PowerHouse Gym in Duncan. Shortly before graduating from Cameron, I accepted a job with a private civil engineering firm in Lawton. I worked there for almost 3 years. I consider this time with the engineering firm somewhat like an internship. While working for this firm, I applied for a government position in the transportation field. I've been working for the government for 20+ years. It is a good job, but someday I would like to have my own business. I moved to Oklahoma City in 1990 and lived as a bachelor for 11 years. There are many stories to tell during this 11 year period, but I'll save those old stories for personal e-mails or conversations. Moving to OKC may have been the best decision of my life. What have been some of the entertaining & funtime highlights of my life? Visiting my family in Augsburg and Schrobenhausen Germany. Visiting the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. Visiting Paris France and Amsterdam Holland with my mother. Living in Coolidge Arizon with my father. Spending a week with my good buddy Chris S. in Tijuana. Visiting Monterrey, Chihuahua, Saltillo, Nuevo Laredo, & Juarez Mexico. Partying in Wichita Falls, Texas. Having some of the wildest, craziest and most unforgettable get-together parties at Johnny Payne's (God bless his soul) house in Duncan. Getting to know the Oklahoma City area has also been a blast. In 2001 I married the most wonderful girl I have ever met. We've been happily married for nearly 8 years. I am fortunate to have waited until I was in my mid thirties to get married. ing in Oklahoma City's oldest Catholic Church - St. Josephs Old Cathedral. I have finally completed (May 15 & 16, 2009) the difficult and rewarding journey of graduating from the University of Oklahoma. My degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with concentration in Administrative Leadership. I cannot begin to describe the high quality of academics and professors in this undergraduate program. This OU program is an interdisciplinary program designed for working adults. Now that I am older and more mature, my motivation to learn is considerably different than it was while attending Cameron University. I have also been fortunate to graduate from the State of Oklahoma's Certified Public Manager Program. What do I currently do for fun and entertainment? I target shoot with some friends and my wife at an outdoor rifle/pistol range in Norman. I've been pig hunting a few times. I ride my bicycle when the weather is nice. I hand write & e-mail letters to a few friends. Last year I adopted a Rat Terrier from the local animal shelter. Laura and I go to the Drive-in theatre located in Chickasha quite often. I grow a few vegetables in my backyard. I am a member of Toastmasters International. This is unique, but I am one of the few men who enjoy cooking a good meal. During the past couple of years, I have been doing a tremendous amount of report writing and presentation preparation for school. I've learned some Spanish. Occasionally, I'll let my mind wonder and doodle some unique, computer-generated, abstract art. I believe today's regular programming television, for the most part, is a waste of time, but I do occasionally enjoy a good movie. I've always been a fan of the older hard rock music. I enjoy listening to AC/DC, Judas Priest, Aerosmith, KISS, Great White, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen, ZZ-Top, April Wine, Nazareth...etc. What are my plans for the future? Graduating from OU is my No. 1 priority...and I have finally completed this journey. After graduation, I would like to write a documentary about a particular bank robbery with the help of my friend who "did not" have any involvement in the robbery. I would really like to visit Mexico City someday. I plan to do some volunteer work at the animal shelter, YMCA and humanity centers around Oklahoma City. I am seriously considering some postgraduate courses. During the course of my life I've learned a few lessons from life experiences. Here are just a few of those learned lessons. * Trust is the foundation of every relationship. * Highly educated people are not very bright unless they can apply some good common horse sense...and horse sense isn't very common. * What ever you do, don't mix drinking and driving. You will be putting more than just your own life at risk. * Take some time to stop and smell the roses. Everybody deserves a break in today's hectic life. * Do a little research before making any substantial decision. Marketing has reached a scientific level, and people will take extreme measures to sway your decision making. * Don't sweat the hard times. Expect them, deal with them, learn from them, and educate others about them. * Regardless of age, you are not really an adult until you have become independent. In my own opinion, too many grown adults are dependent on their parents for financial and emotional support. * If you are not familiar with basic computer operations, don't be afraid to enroll in a computer course. Modern society has become dependent on our ability to utilize these electronic machines. Finally, I would like to hear from some of you. Please sign my guest book and drop me a line. Tell me about some of your life experiences. I am open to all ideas, comments and questions. Thank you for stopping by to visit me at Classmates, and thank you for taking the time to read a little bit about my life. If you would like to drop me a few lines, please send an e-mail to my personal address. --> dean790 at Yahoo dot com
