Larry's Story

Graduated Chapel 1965. Joined the US NAVY Feb. 1966, thought I would be smart stay out of Army since the draft was going strong. I ended up going to assault boat coxswain school, ended up with a total of 29 months of Vietnam running supplies and troops up 5 different rivers there. Wouldn't want to do it again, felt very lucky to get out ok, but wouldn't take anything for my time there, the great friends I made! Got a three month early out from service in Nov, 1969. got out as an E-5 Second Class Petty Officer. Worked a couple jobs, then found out the power company APL was offering a program, supported by the Gov. that would pay for on the job training making money to train me as I done the job. Got married it lasted 7 years, couple years later married again, her name was Betty, got a good one this time, we had 2 children, a son, Trent ( named after my best buddy in NAM ), and a daughter, Tarah, you have to understand I was 34 years old when married the second time, so our kids were running with some of my friend's grandkids, But I couldn't have asked for 2 better kids. The wife and kids put up with a lot of somewhat bad times, with my out look on life since the Vietnam thing. In 2003 lost Betty to cancer, she had fought it for 10 years, finally just wore her down and took over her body. M...Expand for more
y son was just Graduating Arkansas State with honors, Tarah was junior in high school, and went on to Arkansas Tech, she teaches in Lonoke, Trent is doing good in Jonesboro, where my grandson, Kane lives. Tarah is getting married June 27th this year. I left the power company in 1980, went to work for the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a high voltage electrician, retired from there as a High Voltage Leader after 30 years with the government. Lived in my home in Watson Chapel since 1971,. Moved to Fairfield Bay, AR, in 2006. Have had my ups and downs in life, to hardheaded to admit what some of the reasons were, but I am doing ok now doing lots of traveling, seeing parts of the country, that I had never been before, I am doing this with my soul mate and the best thing to come along since Betty, her name is Pennie, she is my best friend, and has been with me and stood by me in good times and bad. Can't say enough how great she and my kids and grandson have been for me. I love them all. Just went to 50th year class reunion, really enjoyed seeing some ole friends, hope we are able to get together a few more times. The older I get the easier it is to say how much I love them all, and what good friends they all are! Hope to hear from others from school. GOD bless and keep you all, Larry Taylor "DUB" to some"
