LaTricia's Story
Life
During my Senior year of High School, initally enlisting into the United States Army in Sept 2001 was the best thing I could have done for myself in the town I lived in at the time. Soon after Graduation, I was off to serve my country and to do something for myself. My mother, a single mother of 3 was a drug addict since I was 4. I found out about her bad choices when I was soon to be a Junior in High School. I barely knew my estranged father who left my mother when she was pregnant with me. My two younger sisters and my mother needed someone to be strong and to look up to.
I went to Korea in 2002. Came to Fort Campbell in 2003.
I deployed in 2005 for a year to Iraq. Coming home was the greatest yet wierdest thing. I was overjoyed to be reunited with my family and son. I went to Afghanistan 5 months after I had my daughter. Returned when she was 14 months. Hardest thing I had to do. I am now married as of March 20th. Words cannot express how much love we have for one anoth...Expand for more
er. I never thought I would be this happy with someone.
School
I enjoyed school and learned a lot in those short four years. Going to school seemed as if everyone knew everyone and the best thing about growing up in California is the diversity we have. Well, that's all for now.
College
I took one course of English 101 while stationed at Camp Casey, Korea. My education was paid for by the Army. I tried to do a home-based Art Institute school, but it was very hard in my career and home-life as a single mother to put ample effort into it. I am currently attending The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online for my BS in Photography.
Military
I went to train at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri to become an NBC (Nuclear Biological Chemical) Decontamination Specialist Soldier. I was stationed in Korea in 2002-2003, was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky Dec 2003-June 2010. I am now stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. I have learned so many skills while being enlisted, thus far since 2002.
