Laura's Story

Hmmmm.... perhaps it would be more interesting to write a bit about high school, before I write about what's happened in my life since then... So here are some random memories: The Fat Lady (a literary magazine) I believe we managed to publish 2 issues. A Birthday party, in class for Mr. Johnson, and bringing him a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry. Imagine trying that these days! Mr. Anderson, who taught me a little about printing b&w photographs: again, imagine a well-meaning teacher being alone with a student in a darkroom, these days. gine, back by the parking lots. The group that was formed to propose changes to the student dress code: I was on it, as was Steve Winkel (my beau all through HS) and Lynn Kendall (now deceased) and Frank Spiga, I think. I have a photo of that somewhere. Result: girls could wear slacks -- not blue jeans -- and boys could wear blue jeans. woowoo!! no more frostbit thighs for THIS girl! Mrs. Belleau, the french teacher, from whom I learned the pronounciation "Par - LAY - Voo Fran-SAY" I think she was from Tennessee, maybe. Mrs. Cain, who assured all her students that they were the "creme de la creme" Prom, at Cobo Hall... how elegant we were! And finally, graduation at the Light Guard Armory...
