Laura's Story
Wow. I started college 2 days after commencement and continued working. Decided to take my education to a University and met the man I married at the end of that school year July 1980. Moved to Nevada while he went to Turkey with the Air Force for a year. Not the best experience with his family but I had a lot of fun with my Aunt, Uncle and Cousins when I could get up to Oregon to visit and loved my job and co-workers. Took a class at Truckee Meadows with my Manager Georgie and what fun we had. Moved to California, George AFB and worked at Builders Emporium. Started our family with the first born being a beautiful baby boy who we named Sean born April 6, 1983. Had him in Carson City so we could travel to Spain for our next location. Spent 4 years in Spain and loved every minute of the stay. Stacey was born in Spain May 27, 1984 and Shane was born January 24, 1987. I was able to see quite a bit of Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Valencia, Zaragoza and Barcelona. Would not trade the visit to such a beautiful country for the world. Moved to Germany from Spain and spent a year in Spangdahlem. Beautiful countryside but the people were not quite as friendly as my experience in Spain. But I still enjoyed the visit to Germany and was able to see quite a bit in a short time. Moved to Spokane Washington from Germany and spent a year at Fairchild AFB. Then moved to Grants Pass Oregon for 3 months and down to Vegas. The marriage was rocky and after much termoil I decided to move on in the benefit of the childrens and my best interest. Upon divorcing I was able to land a job at the Luxor of which I loved working at the Luxor. After 8.5 years my oldest boy had a skateboarding injury that put him in ICU and I was told he would only make it 8 more hours. He survived and was on bedrest for 4....Expand for more
5 months. His medical would run out at 18 at the Luxor. This prompted a career change for the benefits and that is how I got to Medco. I have learned a lot at Medco and met some very wonderful people. After a tough struggle the first 6 years I am on my feet and working on my education. Stacey moved to Florida after she graduated to live with her Dad and when that didn't work out she joined the Marines. She has made me very proud with how she has shown such strong will to get through some very tough life challenges, one of which is being a single parent in the Marines. Sean moved to Alaska and then joined the Air Force and is doing very well. He married Teya who has two beautiful children and they are living in Washington. He is a wonderful person with a great big heart and takes very good care of his family and makes me very proud. Shane is currently in boot camp with the Marines. He was going to school to be a fighter pilot starting college in his senior year and took no semester breaks until he hit some issues with the economy and his student loans in September 2008. This prompted his research on advancing to his career goal through enlistment and he is now on his alternate path towards becoming a fighter pilot. He will be continueing his education through the Marines with hope that he can become an officer and a pilot. I put my Bachelors degree on hold while Stacey went to Iraq so I could care for my grandaughter Jamie. We had a blast and became best buddies. It was a 3 day tearfest after Stacey took her back. But Jamie and Stacey love each other and both missed each other very much so I get to be Grandma again. So to keep me busy and finally get my education completed I am now taking classes with ITT for my Bachelors in ISS (Internet Security Systems). Life is good!!!
