Laura's Story
Hello Everyone!
I graduated from Fourth Baptist in 1981 and planned on going to Bob Jones University that Fall. God had better plans for me and after a few days of arguing with Him, I "gave in" and ended up at Pillsbury Baptist Bible College for a wonderful 1 1/2 years.
In the summer of 1983 my family moved to Greenville, SC to be with my brother and his family, so I assumed that God wanted me to transfer to BJU (Never assume you know what God wants you to do!) After 21 months of pure misery I made my way back to Minneapolis., where I met my husband, Chris Orr at Emmaus Baptist Church. We married in October, 1988 and settled in with plans to move to the Black Hills as soon as we could.
After 2 children (Joanna, 12/90 and Nathaniel, 3/94), a failed business and over 100 resumes to companies in SD we realized God didn't want us in SD. Chris continued at his profession...Expand for more
as a meteoroligst for a local forecasting company and I pretty much was a stay at home wife and mom. Our kids attended Fourth Baptist for school and we were active in a new church work.
In the summer of 2000 we realized the metropolitan life was really not for us and prayed about moving to SD again. This time God said it was time, so we moved to Rapid City, SD in October, 2000, and have NEVER regretted our decision.
I am now working for a local car dealership doing payroll, and Chris can be seen every morning at 6am on NewsCenter1's morning show where he is the anchor. He also is the station's assignment editor, and does weather forecasting and consulting on the side.
We are active members at South Canyon Baptist Church, as are our children.
