Laura's Story

Life Feb 2, 2006 Hey...so wow...things have changed so much since 1996, and 2000, and even 2003. I have a terrific almost five year old son, a wonderful husband Charles, and a cute little house just NorthEast of Baltimore. Who would have thunk that would happen? I can hardly believe that in May, I will have been out of high school for 10 years...has it really been that long already? I want to come home for the reunion, but we'll see. I had major back surgery in June last year and flying is still really hard for me. I am doing much better since the surgery, but it is still hard to make the flight. Mom and Daddy are still in town. Not many things have changed in that respect. Been almost two years since I have been to Cruces. Things had sure gotten different the last I was there. I saw the Outback Steakhouse, the new Sam's and the new WalMarts (out here there aren't any supercenters, can you believe that?...and people here say New Mexico is backwards....;)). Out by my aunt's had sure been built up. Cruces is growing I guess. Won't feel like home if it keeps up. I hate that awful fence at the high school; looks more like they are trying to keep people in than out, but that is my opinion......Heard Mayfield built a stadium and now most football games are held there. I would miss good ole Aggie Memorial; many long nights were spent there in high school and college. Anyway, I hope all of you are happy and healthy. I know I love being a mo...Expand for more
m and having a wonderful family. Times, they have changed me, many of us I expect, and if I don't make it to the reunion, I am there in spirit and wish you all the best in all that you do. Laura Workplace I feel so fortunate these days. Many folks all over the US are losing their jobs due to "industry cutbacks" or whatever malarcky you hear spewing from the mouths of corporate leaders. Me, I may not get outstanding pay, but I do ok, and in a few more days, I will have terrific ob secuirity. I will have vestment....in layman's terms, that means I will have served my probation, made it through, and been granted full employment privilidges. Doesn't sound like much does it? Here's the best part....if Congress cuts my position, another federal office has to offer me a job at least at the same pay as my current one. Now it may be in Walla Walla Washington or Timbuktu WV, but it is still the guarantee that I have a job. Can't beat that now can I? And I know it darn sure beats shoveling out manure pits and sweeping out stalls;) It is definitely better than subbing for bratty kids who are only taking the class because they need it to graduate (God Bless teaching professionals because I have NO idea how you do it). Anyway, I am fortunate too because I love my job. I miss working with animals, but, there are definitely advantages to working inside;) Hope you are as happy with your life path as I am and please drop e a line sometime.... Laura
