Laura's Story
Life
I graduated from Adams State in 1987 with a BA in Special Education. I moved to Gallup, NM to teach right after I finished my student teaching at Maddox. I got very involoved in the local community theatre there and that is where I met my husband Bill. He was a band teacher. We moved to Golden in 1989 and I taught in Aurora and Northglen. We then both got jobs in Great Falls, Montana. Again we were involved in community theater there. We stayed for 3 years before returning to New Mexico to teach on the Navajo Reservation in Tohatchi. ...Expand for more
We spent 7 great years there. I taught Middle School Special Education and Preschool Special Education in the years we were there. Eventually I got home sick and we moved to Buena Vista Colorado. I teach Severe Needs Special Education here and I love it. I finished my Master's Degree in 2002 ( in TESOL - Second Langauge Learners). My husband has quit teaching and is a Corrections Officer. We have 2 great children: Lisa, 12 and Brian, 9. My folks still live in Englewood so I am there often. So far we love Colorado and are glad to be home.
