Laura's Story
In the fallof '78, I set out for Central College in Pella, IA to major in French and Theatre. I found that Omaha was the smallest town I ever wanted to live in and so returned to regroup. I ended up at UNO in the Theatre Dept and graduated with a degree in theatre. There I met my husband Doug and with a group of 10 other UNO students and Professors we started the Circle Theatre, a not for profit semi professional theatre company. We have just celebrated our 25th year of theatre production and our 25th year of marriage. I have 2 great kids-Dylan (can you tell who my husband's favorite singer is?) who is majoring in chemistry at UNO, and my daughter Emma who is a freshman at Central this year!
In 1989, I also became part of the Omaha Theatre Company for Young People. I performed in many plays for children and consider those experiences some of the happiest in my life. Some of my favorite roles were Laura ...Expand for more
from "Little House", Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz", Mary from "It's a Wonderful Life" and Anne from "The Diary of Anne Frank". I toured throughout the US for a short time, but the schedule did not work for my family.
In 2002 I decided to leave the Children's Theatre to get my BS in Elementary Education. I graduated in 2005 and am now teaching Kindergarten at Liberty Elementary(20th & St. Mary's)-just a stone's throw away from the Children's Theatre and from Central.
I got my graduate endorsement in teaching English Language Learners in 2007 and plan to continue work on my masters.
I am curently featured as the voice of Teeny the pig on CBS' "Horseland" cartoon series. I have also done some mini series and small movie roles.
Doug and I have recently been collaborating on some writing projects. Our play "Christmas Spirit" will open the day after Thanksgiving at our Theatre space at 55th and Leavenworth.
