Laura's Story

Where to start? It's been an adventure since high school. The same year we graduated I went to school to become an EMT. In '96 I was a full-time intern with the Chicago Fire Department, worked full-time with AMR Ambulance, and part-time with Grainger. Couple days a week was teaching assistant while pursuing Paramedic license. I took the CFD test, got a good score and all the guys figured I was a sure-foot in door (how much more minority can I get...being female in an almost all male department). I never got called (all the guys were madder than a hippo when my name got passed up, and department called males that scored lower than me). It was never meant to be I guess. Especially a few year...Expand for more
s later it was evident when I passed written & physical test for Northwestern suburbs, and right before being called a car hit me while riding my bike and took out both knees. It was still all good though. Went full-time with Grainger and worked my way up, been married for 12 years with 2 step-sons, and now a beautiful daughter. I quit Grainger after 16-1/2 years so husband could start his own business, and allow me to stay home & raise our daughter. I missed out too much "firsts" from working so much in my last few years with Grainger....didn't want to miss anymore :) Anyone want to drop a line feel free on Facebook under Laura Brandies You see a snuggle bear, you got the right person LOL :)
