LAURA VARRICHIO:

CLASS OF 1971
Oceanside, CA

LAURA's Story

What can I say!! It has been too long. The last time I saw my class was at the 10 year reunion- I believe. Was just married (#2 1980) and with 3 children and one on the way. I had my own business (in home child care - 11 great years) and during that time began obtaining my higher education. I received my AA in Social Welfare at Mira Costa College and started working my BA in Education through National University (2002) while I worked with the Oceanside school district as a paraprofessional. After obtaining my BA I tried to obtain a position as a student teacher first while working on my certification with Oceanside High. Unfortunatelly (the governers office) starting letting individuals go - cut backs. You know the story - last hired, first fired. I needed a job so my daughter in Georgia had me cotact individuals in Henry County for interviews. I had to complete certification in Georgia and figured - heck why not get my Masters! I obtained that in 2004 through Clark Atlanta University - majoring in Special Education. So here I have been! I was a middle school teacher from 2003 until 2008. I then obtaianed a position at DUtchtown High School 2008- to present and for the paset 4 years have been teaching Earth Systems and Environmental Science.. Waiting until I hit the big 6 5 to retire. ghters are out the door and family is moving on - I am planning on moving too. Hopfully I will be in AZ by 2019 living the life of Riley - so to speak - and looking forward to another great chapter in my life. As I stated, the 2nd generation is moving on. My daughter was a police officer and decided to change jobs and is now working with Delta while her husband is still a sheriff, Their daughters have graduated high school and are with the Sheriffs depatment whlle they are going to school. My oldest son works with a non-profit organization in California and has a daughter. My youngest son is an actor and has started producing plays in LA. My youngest daughter is somewhere back east and has a son. So now it is my turn. I have a few thing to do til I can't move anymore (that's a getting old joke) and to have some time to myself before the kids start pestering me. Do any of your kids do that? Think you are so old that you cannot do any thing any more? If they only knew (wink, wink). Well that is all from Georgia - I have read some of your Bio's and am so glade to you how far we all have come. Hope to hear from some of you soon. Remember when school begins again inAugust - I wont read up on your messages as much as I do in the summer - sodo not thinkI have forgotten you. Have a great life all of you and God BLess
