Laura's Story
Life
I met my husband, Richard Wilke, during my Senior year of High School right before Prom. We dated for the next year, then got engaged the summer of 1997. Our wedding was at St. Agnes Catholic Church there in Springfield, Missouri on July 18, 1998.
We lived in Springfield where we both attended SMSU. Richard started working for Wal-Mart with an internship the summer of 1997. He stayed with the company as a Support Manager at the South Campbell store where he later became an Assistant Manager. All the while, I attended SMSU and worked miscellaneous jobs (nowhere important really). Mainly just enjoying life with my new fiance and the adventure we were about to enter...marriage.
Richard graduated from SMSU with honors in 1999. Following graduation, Richard's career with Wal-Mart began to transfer us from place to place throughout the country. His first transfer was to Republic therefore we didn't have to move out of Springfield. Within six months we got the news that we would transfer to Marshfield, Wisconsin (central Wisconsin). We lived there for about a year and a half before being transferred to Iowa City, Iowa which is about 30 miles south of Cedar Rapids.
January of 2002 brought us some very exciting news; we were going to have our first child. Nine months later on September 8, our beautiful daughter was born. Weighing 9 lbs 2 oz, Katelyn Rose Wilke blessedly came into our lives. At the age of only 3 months Katie made her first move when we transferred to Lebanon, Missouri. g we were surprised to learn that our lives were going to be blessed with another baby. Kyle Robert Wilke arrived at 3:45 p.m. on October 13, 2003 weighing in at an even 8 lbs.
October of 2004 brought another transfer our way, this time to Warsaw, Missouri which is just a little over an hour north of Springfield. We lived there for exactly one year when we got the news that Richard had received his much deserved promotion to Co-Manager of a Wal-Mart in Vancouver, Washington. We have now been here for about 3 months and are really enjoying the area. We are only 10 minutes from Portland, Oregon.
The children are now ages 2 and 3, and of course into everything. Over the past three years I have enjoyed staying at home with my children. They are the best gift in life that I have ever received. I am happy to say that I have a wonderful and loving husband who has given me that opportunity to stay at home with them. We will have been together for ten years now; married for almost eight.
Jeremiah Linden is still my best friend. We've been through just about everything together; he was even the Man of Honor in my wedding. We have now known each other for about 15 years, and I know we will continue to be best friends for many years to come.
I hope life has treated each and every one of you as kindly as it has me. I truely feel blessed for the wonderful people in my life.
