Laura's Story
11/26/2016
Now 50 is almost on the horizon. Here's a snapshot of life at this moment: I have a son in the Navy and one in middle school. I've been married 26 years. I left medical transcription for medical coding. I am about to leave Group Health after almost 15 years for a great opportunity at UW Physicians. I love to read; current novel is John Irving's latest. The Walking Dead mid-season finale looms this Sunday. I went to the Duran Duran concert with Amy, Kathy, Krischel and Lori in September. Good times!!
From 2006:
Life
While rapidly approaching my 40s and with 2 young boys to raise, my life is pretty much dedicated to the family and to work right now. Unfortunately, friends take a back seat. I hope they'll understand when I resurface in about 10 or 15 years.
Burning the candle at both ends, which I suspect most of my peers are doing. Taking on too much, trying to save the world, all that...It's a balancing act. Still learning to prioritize. Still trying to improve. Still trying to learn.
Workplace
By far, without q...Expand for more
uestion, the best was when Don and I were in the office for however long that was...a year? Two? LOVED working and playing with Schmoops and collaborating on trainings and shopping and using fog horns and dusting with the thayer. Loved my day camp staff and my teens and my PRC peeps. Good times.
Have been working from home since 2001 and getting antsy...time for a job where I do more than one thing for 8 hours and where there are people and where I can feel like what I'm doing is making a positive difference in someone's life. Being an MT has been great but it's time to move on, especially now that my baby is in full-day K!!
Military
Actually, was not IN the Army but was an Army brat. Favorite place was Fort Barry (a.k.a. "Upper Barry") with the gang of kids...and forts...nighttime games of kick the can...the stables. We had Claudia and Angel Face until they were something like 16 or 17 years old!!! Still intermittently in touch with Sandy Bese. She was my maid of honor 18 years ago!!
Also loved Korea. Good memories there.
