Laura's Story
Life
I graduated from Garden City High School in 1965. I was active in the Concert Choir and played field hockey. I also was Secretary of the Nassau County Teen-age Republicans and President of the local chapter of the Children of the American Revolution.
Then I attended Radford College in Virginia. I started the Radford College Republican Club and was President 3 out of my 4 years in college. July 4, 1969 I gave my life to Christ. I was active in Campus Crusade for Christ. I was in the class of 1969 but changed my major so actually I graduated in 1970. I had 1 class left that I took at Adelphi University.
I was married in 1973 to a Harvard Law student. The marriage ended in divorce in 1996. I have 2 children and 5 grand-children. I have been single for 19 years now.
I attended my 40th high school reunion in 2005. It was great to see old friends again. Nobody was snobbish. We are all glad to be alive.
It is awesome that both of my children love the Lord. My son is a missionary with Campus Crusade for Christ and serves the Lord at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. He also works at Rosetta Stone. I still have a part time job as a bookkeeper. If it were not for my personal relationship with Christ, I would be depr...Expand for more
essed. The Lord gives me strength and comfort to keep going. He gives me "joy, unspeakable and full of glory."
Politics is my hobby and I am still a political activist. I have been to Nixon's Inaugural Ball (my first vote) and 2 Inaugurations and Inaugural Balls for Governors in Virginia. We have elections every year in Virginia and I make phone calls for the candidates, work the polls etc. Last year I had a paid job working for Women Speak Out and helped four U. S. Senate candidates, who were all Republican, win their elections to help us get the Republican majority in the U. S. Senate.
Singing is also still my hobby. We have a Covenant Choir for Easter season and Christmas season. I sang in the Concert Choir at Garden City High and love singing alto. I remember singing at the New York World's Fair. Susan Lucci was also in the choir and I watched her on "All My Children." She is a great actress and got her start at Garden City High.
It is fun having grand-children. My oldest grandson is in a band and plays bass guitar. I went to a piano recital for my youngest grand-daughter. Another grand-daughter loves to sing and sings in a children's choir at church and at school. The love of music has been carried on to the next generation.
