Life
Hmmmm...how do you summarize the past 20 years in several paragraphs? Here goes...
After we graduated I became a professional student, first attending Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where our motto was "work hard, play hard." I had a great time and graduated with a double major in Economics and French.
My family moved to Atlanta while I was at W&L, so after graduation I moved to Atlanta and worked at a brokerage firm for about two years. I decided that I really hated it, so I went back to school at Georgia Tech. I got my Bachelors and Masters in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Geotech. No one ever told me when I was growing up that I could get paid to play in the dirt; I'm glad I figured it out!
After Georgia Tech I decided that I wanted to see what life was like on the Left Coast, so I accepted a job with a geotechnical engineering firm in Seattle. It's a really beautiful place with tons of outdoors-type things to do (I did a lot of hiking and kayaking and learned to cross-country ski), but yes, it's really as gray as you hear. I got to work on some really cool projects at work, including the Seattle Seahawks Stadium.
After 2 1/2 years out West, I decided I needed to move back East. I accepted a job in Virginia just outside ...Expand for more
DC. I really enjoy living in this area and think I'll stay put. I've had a couple of jobs since I moved to Virginia. I got to work as one of the design engineers on the I95/I495/I395 interchange projects (aka The Mixing Bowl), a huge transportation project. I worked at the World Trade Center from 2002-2003, assisting with the recovery operation. I also oversaw my company's response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster for one of the contracts that we hold; a truly challenging experience. Currently I'm working as a contractor to the Department of Labor, coordinating facilities management for their Job Corps Centers and overseeing the facilities development budget.
I met my husband shortly after I moved to Virginia, and we were married in 2004. He loves to travel even more than I do, so we have had several adventures together in the last couple years, going to Hawaii, Greece, and Iceland. We've also done some other fun things like hanggliding in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We are expecting our first child in May 2008, so we are curtailing our travel plans until we figure out how to travel with a little one.
Well, I think that's it - 20 years summarized in 5 paragraphs. Do you think the GHS English department would approve (remember the old 5-paragraph essay)?
