Lauren's Story
After graduating, I completed a 22 year, two month and two day career in the U.S. Air Force...with a 15 month break after the first four years. When I went back in the service, I was made a Public Affairs Specialist and became a newspaper editor, base tour guide, media relations chief and part time photojournalist.
My service time spanned four decades and sent me to Europe to Asia to the North Pole and to just this side of the equator. I traveled throughout the world and spent time in good places, bad places, place I'd love to return to and places I want nothing more to do with.
I experienced two major earthquakes and two major volcanic eruptions. I did my part in two major wars and two minor conflicts. And I loved every minute, good and bad, I spent in the Air Force.

my feet. I was at Clark AB, The Philippines, when Mt. Pinatubo erupted and destroyed the base. I was one of 1,200 security force members 'volunteered' to remain behind and protect US interests at the base. Following the eruption, I escorted news media around the area so they could witness the destruction caused by the volcano. It was a hell of a way to end a career.
After I was retired, I settled in the high desert area of central Oregon and have lived here since my Jan. 1, 1992 retirement. I spend most of my days wandering the high desert in search of that perfect photograph.
I never married, as my career in the Air Force was my top priority. And since retiring, it just hasn't crossed my mind.
For now, I am happy doing what I do and where I do it. It's a great area where I live and I feel right at home with the volcanic peaks and terrain.
