Lauren's Story

Life Throughout my years at Ramsey I was always the shy, weird and psycho girl! Excelling academically and developing my artistic talents were always a priority. Although I had a lot going for me, I still remained a shy, rebellious and insecure child throughout those delicate years. Since Ramsey, I have expanded in so many ways that I can barely recognize the person I was before I graduated high school. The time to be myself and on my own was the key to develop into the individual I am today. Currently, I consider myself a satisfied, balanced person who is living independantly and really enjoying everything life has to offer! I look back at my school life in Ramsey and only remember the good things despite the fact that it felt less than pleasing at the time. As I acquire more life experiences, I get a glimpse of communities in other socioeconomic statuses and realize how lucky I was to grow up in such a fine place. It was a privilege to be able to live in a pretty, safe place while attending school with a whole lot of other high achievers. I remember how blessed the student body was to have so many great teachers and so many solid extracurricular activites to chose from. My own experiences are with the music and arts programs which were superb amongst the many other strong academics. Memories! Anyway, I am currently a teacher of three years and thoroughly enjoy my job. I teach public school general music for the elementary school. When I am not working, I enjoy being outdoors in lush wooded areas. Mainly, I appreciate nature. In college I had a spiritual enlightenment and have since then remained dedicated to my spiritual path. Some of you may remember my crazy jean bell bottems. I still am and will forever be a 1960's music lover. The Beatles, The Who, The Rollingstones, The Doors, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and The Greatful Dead are some of my favorites. There are some talents I wish I could be in touch with more, such my singing, visual arts, and playing trombone. But time is an issue and it's impossible to fit everything in. lately, I've become a health finatic and am very interested in nutrition. I am c...Expand for more
urrently single and sometimes wish I wasn't. But that's ok, my independance is something I value the most. There is something so priceless about being strong as an individual without having to depend on anyone else. I am a single woman who does whatever she pleases and now that is a beautiful thing! I have two kitties whom are my babies and friends and I love my family too. I dont' live very far from where I grew up, so it's easy to stay in touch with the parental units! Hope everyone is enjoying their lives. Lauren School For elementary school I attended Mary A. Hubbard School in Ramsey and soon after, Eric S. Smith school for middle school. Lastly, I went to Ramsey High School. College I went to Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Here I was a music education major and concentrated on trombone. I really broadened my musical and performance skills. And the experiences didn't stop there! I got an off campus apartment after my sophomore year with friends and didn't go back home over the summers. New Brunswick is a party campus and the summer parties were so much fun. During my freshman year I pledged Mu Upsilon Alpha, a music service fraterniy that mainly serviced the Rutgers Marching Band. I graduated Mason Gross with a 3.3 cumulitive average in 2000 and got a job two weeks after I graduated. Workplace Two weeks after I graduated college, I got a job as a high school marching and concert band director and music teacher at North Arlington High School. Teaching high school kids at age 22 is a HUGE challenge and I decided taht I wanted to direct a band that was larger than 10 pieces. So the next year I worked for Bloomfield Middle School and directed the 7th grade band, 8th grade band and the jazz band as well as giving group lessons. Once again, I wasn't happy and decided that general music was my calling. It was something I always really enjoyed. This past year I worked for Carteret Board of Education and I teach classroom music full time at a K-5 elementary school. I love it so much and am so glad I made that move so early. I'll be working there again next year.
