Laurie's Story
Life
Moved to the Washington Romeo area in 2001 Love living down in this area have worked here for over 21 years so it feels like home. Working in a small grocery store called Sheena's. Living with my fiancee and 3 of my children ages 22,16 &12 and Rick's 21 year old daughter. Never a dull moment. I also have a 18 year old who lives with his dad. So much to talk about not enough time. My mother passed away in April so I dont get to Imlay City much any more. Getting married on June 17,2005 so real busy with wedding plans.

Life has changed again! New job, actually last October I started working for Romeo Schools as a substitute custodian. Never thought I would like to clean up after kids, since I've been doing it at home for the last 24 years, but its really not bad. I get a good workout and get paid for it. Trying to get hired in so I can reap the benefits. Then this summer I started at Chippewa Valley doing the same thing. Waiting to see who hires first, meanwhile I'm working my you know what off, doing 60 hours trying to keep both schools happy. My oldest son and his girlfriend blessed me with a beautiful grandson in February. What a joy when you can get your fill of them and then when they get crabby you can give them away. Been married over a year now and having a house built in New Haven, MI. Hoping to move in Oct. as long as we both still have jobs by then. Rick is in construction, actually for the company building our house and everyone knows how construction is going right now. So we just take it day by day. Who knows maybe we can move south before retirement.

Now working for MISD ( Macomb Intermediate School District ) driving School bus. I transport Special Need Students. I absolutly love my job!!!!!
Never thought anything could be so rewarding. Sold home in New Haven and moved to Clinton Twp. in November. I live 3 Min. from work so when I get a break I can come home. Things have been tough, my husband lost his job in construction in Nov. due to the poor economy. But I'm working sometimes 10 hours a day so it's been cool.

Well I changed positions again. Things are getting better. I interviewed and was offered a Dispatcher/Assistant Supervisor position at Romeo Schools. Was a very tough decision to make but I think I made the right one. I started on Aug. 5 and things are crazy right now trying to get routes set up and making the first day go smooth hopefully it will. I know Im going to miss the special needs kids and the driving but I have a lot of new ideas that can hopefully help the district run a lot smoother transportation department. My husband also started a new job in July and has already recieved a promotion. We are going to start looking for a place to live back in the Romeo/Washington area again. I can't wait to move back there.

Things are good at work, I've settled in quite well. It's a very high anxiety job and always someting going on, but I love it. It's always a different day, no repitition, just a lot of multi-tasking. It sometimes gets hard to run a office and dispatch from a bus, but I get it done. It's sometimes frustrating being in a small school district, but it's also sometimes nice because you can be more personal with the families having fewer of them. We've also moved back to Shelby area so I'm alot closer to work too.
