Lawrence's Story

Wow, I graduated high school in 1978. How old are we? I saw where FIVE (count them) five people from my high school years were interested enough to ask ¿Hey what about Larry Moon¿. Well I naturally feel obligated now to respond to what is clearly a huge fan base. ¿ Soooo much has transpired since 1978 for me. It¿s funny as I was driving to work approximately a year ago and this song came on the radio performed by Brad Paisley (Letter to Me) that completely brought me back to my experience at Alamogordo High School. As I rocked up to school on a daily basis so proud to be a snuff dipping, cow milking, bull riding cowboy the influence that my father, Jeff Godby, and Mrs Goodrich had on me, provided me with insight that gave me the tools to make decisions in the presence of correct and complete information. I don¿t always follow their advice, but I should. Whilst attending Alamogordo High School, New Mexico was a prison I desperately wanted to escape and found a file in a cake one day in the form of a US Army enlistment. Today, the land of enchantment knows I miss her and routinely reminds me that I chose to leave her. When opportunities surface for me to re-unite with my sun baked home, the trip is planned before time can change my mind. There are so many of you who are the product of my fondest memories. Gosh I had a huge crush on Stephanie Barns for so long. She is so lucky that I was too scared to ask her out for fear that I would be totally rejected. I had crushes on many more. Most of you know who you are. I¿ve never thought about articulating my life story, but when I consider that I was a student who graduated high school with the minimum state GPA requirement of 1.8, I think it might be worth telling. (ha ha). Upon graduation from high school, I entered the US Army as a Military Policeman where I graduated at the top of my class. Not a big deal when one considers that these guys all probably graduated from their high schools with a 1.8 GPA. Mrs. Goodrich, this is where you come in. To this day, I don¿t understand it, but you insisted on believing in me. I do wish that one day you would tell me why. As an enlisted man, I served three years in the Army serving in Alabama, Turkey (what a trip) and Washington DC. Upon completion of my service I attended New Mexico Military Institute. I remember initially they didn¿t feel comfortable allowing me to attend based on my horrible high school grades. Still, as I was a veteran, I remember the ROTC commandant convincing Admissions that I deserved a shot. They let me in, but put me on probation straight away making it clear that if I didn¿t at least achieve a 2.0 in the first semester, my college days would be over. I graduated NMMI with a 3.86 GPA and honors. It was also at NMMI where I met my first wife. Kerrie Anne Healey. Kerrie was a top shelf tennis player from Australia and I fell in love with her hard. We were married on 10 December 1983 whilst I was attending Oklahoma University ...Expand for more
(OU). My junior and senior years in college were spent at OU where the GPA went down a bit, but I had a lot of fun. There was a lot of beer at that school. But in December, Kerrie came back from Australia to marry me, and the grades went back up. Upon graduation from college, I joined the army as an artillery officer. While at basic officer training, my first child was born (Michelle Gloria Moon) on 12 October 1985. I¿ll never forget how happy that day was for me. Michelle came into the world under very stressful circumstances (a story to be told over a beer). After basic officer training, I found myself stationed to Korea. The tour was unaccompanied so Kerrie lived in Australia while I was there. After Korea I was stationed to Hawaii, for eighteen months when Kerrie became very home sick and put it to me that if we didn¿t move to Australia, our Marriage would not survive. With no promise of a job, I resigned my commission and moved to Australia. Once there, I applied to become the first American to join the Australian army as a field artillery officer and was accepted. The Australian army was very good to me. I made friends that I remain in touch with today and they sent me to the University of Western Sydney to get my Masters in Business Computing. Long story short, as I started to assimilate to the Australian culture, I became less this clean cut American boy my wife had married in the U.S. Our marriage ended and years later I was enticed back to the states to work for an old US Army friend as the CIO for a California based company called Totally Wireless (and later ePhones). I resigned my commission in the Australian Army at the rank of major. It was from ePhones where I fell in love with Marisa Del Savio (my wife) and followed her like a stray dog to Potomac Maryland where we live today with two beautiful young boys (Louis and Andrew). Marisa is a drop dead gorgeous Manhattan Italian who consumes every corner of my heart. So today, I¿m the proud father of 5 wonderful children (three Australians, and two Americans). Three of which I see rarely, and two that hang off of each of my legs. Whilst this circumstance will most likely remain bitter sweet for the duration of my life, I¿ve made many decisions in life to date (most right, many wrong) and will live with all of them. Today, I¿m employed by IBM as a managing consultant in their security practice and live off of the fat of the Federal Beltway in Washing D.C. Please feel free to touch base anytime. I¿ll most likely stay on classmates for 3 months (long enough to connect to old friends) then wait for my next five fans. Perhaps when I¿m next in NM, we can catch up for a beer and a story. I throw a BBQ every year in June, that any of you are welcome to attend. The invite web site is plugandperform. I also threw up the odd poem and video on you tube. Feel free to check it out. The name to put at the end of the site address is simply a forward slash and larryjmoon. Cheers, Larry Moon
