Leah's Story

Since graduting from the IB program at Miles Mac in 1986, I lived in Japan (as an English teacher), went to the U of M for a BA and MA in History, and then relocated to Carmel, California to attend the Monterey Institute of International Studies in 1995 for an MPA in Int'l Management. I've been on staff at the Institute since 1997, first as the Director of Career Services and Special Programs (1997-2007) for the Graduate School of International Policy Studies, providing career services to graduate students focusing on nonproliferation, security, terrorism, env. mgmt, human rights, trade policy, int'l development, etc. Since 2007 I've been the Director of Alumni Relations for the campus, working with the alumni community in more th...Expand for more
an 110 countries. The opportunities have been exciting and very rewarding--extensive international and domestic travel, working with an enthusiastic group of staff and faculty, and engaging alumni. In my spare time, I'm an active outrigger canoe racer, and have raced in Hawaii and throughout California. I look forward to returning to Canada this summer to race in BC for the first time. I'm still in touch with a very small # of MMC alumni, and get to visit the school on rare occasions when my trips back to Winnipeg coincide with the school being open. I've run into a few teachers over the years at conferences and in airports of all places. I hope the class of 1986 has been hale and hearty, and look forward to hearing from them.
