Leah's Story
Life
Degree in sociology from UC Berkeley in 1972.
Lived in Mexico two years in 1969 and 1970.
Graduated from Univ of Washington School of Law in 1977.
Have lived in Washington State locations since 1974-- Seattle, Yakima, Stehekin and Holden.
I had an idea I'd travel to many countries, but it's only been a dozen or so, because I somehow keep ending up in the mountains for months (or longer) or in Central America.
Spent much of my law career in refugee and immigration human rights law-- political asylum, human trafficking, family reunification, etc.
Worked as a sister parish and sanctuary organizer and delegation leader between US and El Salvador in the 1980's.
Ex-climber, occasional kayaker, hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada; still slouch along whatever rocky path leads into the high country. Did a three month...Expand for more
solo car camping and hiking trip through the Southwest a couple of years ago. There's nothing like waking up in a tent alone in a Zion campground, half buried in new snow and the sun glinting on high, red rock walls!
Passions and great likes: friends/family, my daughter Amelia, mountains, glaciers, justice, compassion, laughing, snow, meaningful work, Stehekin, El Salvador and Salvadorans, wild flowers, Holden, the whistle of marmots in the mountain mist, Ireland and the Irish, western Scotland, Shakira, great literature, decent mysteries, trad Andean and Irish music, pear martinis, the North Cascades Highway-- and every trail that leads away from it, babies and dogs, old growth cedar forests, Thai food, high mountain lakes, learning things that surprise me, winter ocean storms, the internet, and the list goes on.
Life is just too damned short!
