Leana's Story

Life I moved to Albany, NY shortly after graduating High School - John W. North in Riverside, CA. My parents moved to New Jersey to be closer to me, but my brother Ferand "Webb" (step-brother, graduated Ramona High in Riverside) stayed in California. He now has 4 boys - Kasal, Ethan, Kaleb and Camden. I did my 4+ years in college, but never went to law school like I originally planned. Instead, I started working for the local hospital and found my niche. I was the supervisor of the Physical Medicine department's office staff for 5 years until I was promoted to my current position. I train the new employees on how to use the computers, on the different insurances, we audit the departments, go into the departments and re-organize them, and institute new policies & procedures to be used across hospital-wide. I am one of those weird people that love their job - finally! My parents are doing well. They moved up from New Jersey to Albany during my last year in college. My mother served in Operation Enduring Freedom and retired from the Air Force Reserves after 22+ years of service. I'm so proud of her. When I was 25 and supervisor of physical medicine, I became friends with one of my staff members, Nancy. One night she and I went shopping and when it started snowing she called her brother, Jake to give us a ride home. Like a school girl, I told her I thought he was cute. She told him, and that weekend he and I went on our first date. Within a month, Jake and I were madly in love. After about 3 1/2 years, we got married October 9, 2004. I met my sister, Yahaida for the first time 5 years ago. She searched out my mother on the internet and found me that way. She and I have the same biological father, and grew up on different coasts with our mothers -- me in California with my mom and she in New York with her mom. She is 3 years younger than me, married and has a beautiful little boy named Ethan. She graduated Medical School this year and is working as a Resident in a Hospital in Massachusetts. Jake died tragically in the summer of 2007. Needless to say, my world came tumbling down around me, and it has been a long hard road, but I'm doing much better now. It's hard when I think of all the things we were planning, and what will never be. But with the help of my family and some very good friends, even if I can't see my future I can at least see where I've come from. Sometimes, that's all you can ask for to keep you moving along. In April of 2009, I met Glenn through eHarmony. We fell fast for each other and quickly became inseparable. We have so much in common and being with him reminded me of who I was, when it had been so hard to see while I was in mourning over Jake. On our 10 m...Expand for more
onth-iversary, Glenn proposed, and we were married in April 2011. In September 2011, I am going back to school for Computer Technology. My future is looking bright. School I attended John W. North H.S. in Riverside, California. My brother (step-brother Eadwine Ferand Webb) and my best-friend since 3rd grade (Teri Kelly) attended Ramona H.S. on the other side of town. I don't have many detailed memories of high school, but this I know: My best friends in high school were Kathy Pimentel, N. Mark Kassouf, and Jennifer Mattson (she was the year behind). Kathy was actually a year older, and I looked at her almost like a sister - I think at the time we also had a lot of similar appearances too. Mark was a great guy and easy to talk to. Jennifer had a great upbeat personality. I didn't have many friends, but I had good friends. I think I got along well with everyone, and have fond memories and warm feelings for a lot of people that I went to high school with. Some of my favorite teachers were Mr. Lloyd - English/Yearbook, Mr. Santoyo - Chemistry, Mrs. Fauvre - English, and Mr. Randall Roger Rideout - English/Theory of Knowledge. Mr. Lloyd was actually my 8th grade teacher. He transferred to North at the same time that I started my freshman year. I had him for a class that year and for yearbook the following 3 years. Mr. Rideout would get his Theory of Knowledge class going with questions like "What is the meaning of the word 'IT'?". He was a handsome man, but the girls would talk about how hard it would be to talk to him while on a date. He really got you to think about things. Mrs. Fauvre was very sweet. She was originally Ms. Fauvre, but after she got married, she kept her maiden name to keep her father's name going. Mr. Santoyo was easy to talk to. I would stay after class some times talking to him. One embarrassing moment for me was when I was talking him as he was closing up for the day. As he closed one door and walked around through the other, my feet slipped out from under me. He walked through the door to see me in the "splits", plopped on the floor with all the contents of my school bag all over and flying away. Some other memories from high school - I remember Josh Judge (year ahead of me) dressed like Dr. Frankenfuter of Rocky Horror for Halloween. That was hysterical. I remember having lunch on the hill. I remember hanging out in the yearbook room during lunch. I remember my Algebra teacher calling me the wrong name for a whole semester. (She called me Leona--- ugh I hate that name.) I remember being referred to as the perverted little crazy girl... It was a lot of joking. In college I was such a quiet prude that no one would have believed how I was in high school.
