Leata's Story

School The question was raised in a forum of former LHS students about our fav teachers. Most of the respondants to the original post were under 20, but a few teachers I had when I attended were mentioned. I found it interesting to read them all. This is what I said: "Okay...I gotta put my two cents in. So please...humor an 'old lady' and let me spout off about the best teachers LHS had when I was there: English was Jon Larson- He was interesting and made class worth showing up for at the ungodly hour of anything before 9am. It is because of him that I went into my college level courses and stayed with them. Science was Madeline Niccore-I got deathly ill in the spring of 86 and she allowed me to take class from home by taping her lectures (video) and letting me take notes, complete assignments and come in after all the kids left at the end of the week to ask questions and take quizzes. It was a hard semester, but because of her backing me up, I succeeded and finished the year on a high note, illness and all. P.E. was Diane Schell- she made getting over 5 broken fingers and not killing anyone in the process a challenge worth taking! She taught me through that experience to stand against the odds, smile when its easier to cry and no matter what, keep coming back when quitting looks better. I was a tough nut to crack in that day and she stood beside me when others gave up. I cant say what I owe her for that. (if you are wondering about the 5 finger thing, just ask, it was actually kinda funny, even back then!) Social Studies was Warren Franz-he taught in class, as well as in life, see...Expand for more
k where you wish to go, plan the trip, enjoy the adventure and take along a friend or two. He told us where to go alot of times, watched as some of us strayed away to 'better things' (ditching or sleeping in class) and welcomed us back when we had our rude awakenings (suspension, detention and dear old mom showing up in curlers and a robe to ensure proper attendance) Math was Bud Marsh- one of the most patient men when it came to making a+b=c. Algebra I, II and III were much easier to navigate with him at the helm. I hated the ride but dang if I dont use it more now than ever. Hate it when they end up being right! lol Art (and at least one semester) of study hall was Marshall Howe. He once showed us all (teachers and staff) that feelings and thoughts are sometimes more important than tests and grades. When we lost a fellow student at Easter, he gathered with us to pay tribute during class time when others shunned us because 'prayer wasnt allowed in school'. Music had to be without a doubt, Ray Harrison-he was tough, which made us work harder to please him. We ended up succeeding in spite of ourselves, I think. Went to many a competition scared out of our minds, had a blast while performing, and walked away with a trophy a time or two, but always with our pride. Guess some of THAT carried with me over the years as well. Hmmm...thats interesting. I havent been "home" in many years but would be interested in finding out if any of these class acts are still teaching, be it at LHS or another school. If anyone knows for sure, please feel free to fill me in. Thanks for lettin' me buzz in."
