I am the youngest of four siblings, Carol Suzuki (oldest) James Jr, Patti Johnson and me. After graduating from Aiea High and later the University of Hawaii with a BBA I worked for McDonalds Corp. for 3 years in their management program. One day they offered me a big promotion. I ran home and told my Dad about it. He said, "why do you want to flip hamburgers your whole life...those jobs are dime a dozen". So the next day I went back to work and resigned. By the way, my McDonalds boss and mentor was just featured in the...Expand for more
Hawaii newspaper as owning the most restaurants than any female in the state of Hawaii. Wow...you can be successful in anything with the drive and motivation. That is what she taught me. 9 months laters, I applied for a newspaper ad for a Retail Mgr Trainee with Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), a DOD Govt job. After working for 30 years I retired in November 2011. The job relocated me to many places to include Bangkok Thailand, Tacoma WA, Fairbanks AK, Tokyo JP, Dallas TX, San Antonio TX, Phoenix AZ, and Fairfield CA. In 2004, they paid for my MBA degree while working at Luke AFB in AZ. While stationed in our HQs in Dallas TX, I travelled all over the United States to include overseas Korea, Okinawa and Mainland Japan, Azores, Panama, and Puerto Rico visiting various Army and Air Force bases. My passion is backpacking and hiking the country. My goal is to thru hike the Appalachian Trail one year. We are planning to do a group hike each year starting in 2013. In Sep 13, we all travel to Phoenix AZ and will backpack the Grand Canyon. In 2014 I traveled to the Big Island of Hawaii and hiked with my Solemates Hiking friends for 4 days. One day I will do the Appalachian Trail but it will probably be a long section hike or who knows...25% of the chance I will finish. :) After retiring from AAFES in Nov 2011, i was able to sell my CA house in April 2012 ...took a big loss as the economy went thru a major recession. Currently living at my retirement pad in Canterbury Place, Waikiki, HI. Making new friends and re-establishing old one. Enjoying the hiking trails on Oahu much are unlike any where I've hiked. Very challenging but once on top of the ridge...the most beautiful views of the island. Enjoying retirement life and next on my bucket list is to start treasure hunting the world and working my geocaching.com statistics...my latest venture.".
