Lee's Story

Life Just moved from Ventura Ca to Galveston County Texas in March. From 96 to 2002 Played Semi-Pro and Professional Football in Az and Ca. Just bush-league stuff but pretty competetive with some players getting drafted. That was never my goal, I just enjoyed playing since I didn't play in H.S. Now focusing on competetive off-shore sailing on small craft (18 and 20 foot). It can be extermely physically and mentaly changeling. Anthony Aquila and myself started a team that has done very well nationaly and we hope to jump into the competetive world scene soon. In May of 07our team attempted to complete the Tybee 500. A 500 mile race from Miami to Tybee Island, Georgia in severe conditions and all but destroyed my boat. We were chasing the first Hurricane that was pounding the East coast this year. The next month we entered the Great Texas 300 from South Padre Island to Galveston (300 miles of open ocean) and logged the 3rd fastest elapsed time in the race this for 07 and won our class in 08. We have a team web site but I cant post it since it keeps getting this deleted. But our team name is Team Chums. You can probably figure out how to find it online. Chums is the eyewear retainer company with the Penguins on the logo based in Hurricane, Utah. They are our primary sponsor. Since school I've been a certified welder and in the last 12 years a welding contractor and a small amount of comercial diving in Ventura Ca. I am now a Project Engineer for Gulf Coast Downhole Technologies in Houston, Texas. YeeeeeeHaaaawwwwwww! Trying not to become too much more of a redneck. If any of you can remember, I already was one in schoo...Expand for more
l. I don't have any children. I kind of wish I did by now but that's just the way things work out. I got married in July of 98 to someone I was with for a few years. We split up in 2000 and I just finalized my divorce in Oct 07. Needless to say, I'm not looking to do that again anytime soon. I still stay in touch with quite a few freinds from school. I'd say Anthony Aquila and Mike Mooneyham are the ones I talk to the most. Feel free to drop me a line and get intouch. I have a nice house on the Gulf Coast of Texas right on the water. It's like a vacation every day here. Fishing and boating from my back yard. I do miss Lake Powell quite a bit though. UPDATE: I made it through Hurricane Ike! What a surreal experience. My house flooded but I was going to re-model anyway. I guess lifes all about the ride, right? Excellent ride! I hope I don't do that anytime soon. Some of my friends didn't fare so well. Our main hangout on Galveston Island got totally removed. It was featured on the Weather Channell. As you can see by the photo, the Texas flag is flying proud. We cleaned out the house and toasted with a shot of Tequilla and raised the flag right before we left. It was kind of surreal to see the Weather Channell spotlight on the flag flying as the surge was getting closer to the house. I sat in a local bar watching it trying not to shed any tears. Friday morning before the storm hit, the surge was almost to my house (my house is 16 feet above high tide) and the weather still looked nice. I did go to higher ground but not too far away. It's December now, and I'm still remodeling. Take care everyone. Lee Wicklund
