Legand's Story
Currently working with the Census Bureau to encourage the general public to respond to the 2020 Census: it means money and power to your community! Also, a consultant with LLBurge&Associates. Capture the following:. higher education at Stillman, Alabama State, and Dean, College of Engineering/Professor Electrical Engineering at Tuskegee University.
After graduation from Douglass in 1967 attended OK State. Received the BS, MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering from OK State. While at OSU, joined AFROTC and received the USAF Commission, served 27years, and retired as colonel (O-6). Although a graduate of OSU, I am very appreciative of the work of HBCUs; all of my children and their spouses have attended one: Langston in OK (2 grads-LeAnn (Johnny~Langston) & LegandIII (Londra~Langston), Bowie State in MD (1 grad-Lamuelle (Edward~Hampton), and Tuskegee in AL (1 grad-Louis). My wife is a grad of Alabama A&M. I have five grandchildren: LeAnn and Johnny Crisp have Johnny III; LegandIII and Londra have LegandIV, Lyric and Lakota; and, Lamuelle and Edward have Edward Marion.
I Lived at 1825 NE 11th Street, OKC.
I have found that we had the very best of teachers at Douglass High School (and FD Moon and Truman). Among my favorites were Lola Greer, J V Peters, Madam James and Frank Baker. Honorables are Dr. Clark, Green, Clardy, Mason, and Allen; and Seward, and Houston. While I didn't major in music, the spirit of Perry and Hicks have remained in me and all I ha...Expand for more
ve done in the music ministry. I give alcolades to Archie Ellis, my piano teacher. I have continued to be inspired in churches, and just recently have stopped playing for choirs. I played for churches for 58 years.
My first job was at The Black Dispatch, where I was paid 4 cents out of 10 cents to deliver papers. What I remember most about it is, I moved the paper route from zero to well over 100 papers for customers.
In 10 years, I hope to be very retired. I'm going to get there by continuing to live a balanced life, and enjoying the love of my very best friend.
My current age is 70. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be really wise. I was so completely fascinated. I lived in the dorm at OK State. I am a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi. College life was great: could not really party as much as the frat needed; i.e. engineering required real stick-with-it-ness.
If I won $100 million, I'd give most of it to worthy students who would commit to helping others' intellectual development and community development, then spend the rest on travel (not sure with COVID-19 today?). I would make someone very happy and assure that my latter days would be filled with what I wanted to do.
I had a great smart dog that gained and lived with me by grace - Rocko, an AKA Rocweilder. Lived about 15 years! Life continues to be good; I relish in seeing our classmates continue to be recognized for their contributions. Be safe! Live as if it's your last day!
