Leiane's Story
Life
I presently live in Amarillo, Texas with my husband of 27 years, Randy. We have three adult children, Joshua (25), Callie (22) and David (20). The two boys live in Amarillo, while Callie returned to DC when she turned 18. She has since married Martin Beatty of Stafford, VA and presented us with a gorgeous
grandson (Curtis Randall Beatty) weighing in at 9lbs, 2 oz on July 20).
We have been residents of Amarillo since Oct.'01. After living in the DC area for 20 years, we decided to move closer to home as Randy has a rare form of spinal cancer and had to retire from work as a contractor for the Navy. He did put in his time in the reserves and retired as a Commander.
Up until Dec of '03 I had been a full time student studying Dental Hygiene. At that time I chose to move my parents out here from FL. so that I could better care for them. So school is on hold at least until Spring '05. My dad is in the mid stages of Alzheimers and my Mum has MS and early AZ so they are a handful. But I am able to provide the care they need and have the quality...Expand for more
time to spend with them while I can.
I still anticipate the return to school but have put that on the back burner until I know more about how my parents are progressing. They are quite time consuming with their needs, which makes study and practicals difficult. But I do continue to study and review so that when I do return to the classroom I hopefully will not have lost what I worked so hard to retain previously.
School
High school was stressful because I never really could be the person I really was. Trying to please everyone and most often failing. Maturity has helped and has aided me in helping my kids through the "icky" high school ordeals and letting their own personalities to shine through. I can finally say even through the ups and downs it was a blast. I have wonderful memories of Choral concerts and trips, It was a pain clumping around with crutches and casts but my friends were always there to lend a helping hand. All in all in retropect I think I would change very little. I just hope my kids will have the same precious memories.
