Leigh's Story

Life I never thought I'd put out a life bio before, but here it goes. I got my BS in Accounting at UMass Boston in 1997. In June '97 I spent a month in Hong Kong and Taiwan visiting friends and meeting my then girlfriend's family. In 2000 I changed careers from accounting to Information Technology. I was lucky enough to work until January 2002 when the dot com crash caught up with me. In November 2002 I managed to secure an IT job. For most of the past two years, I've been in good shape job wise. Luckier than a lot of people I know in the field. College College was the best time of my life. The first few days at U Mass were strange because I didn't know anybody. Within ten days I had met the group of people who are my closest friends. Because of this group, I met my fiancee and many other people. My fondest memories are hanging out in our club room playing poker, watching anime movies, shooting darts, and just hanging out. Sometimes we all wonder why we actually left. We have more money now but never see each other. Maybe once a year all of us are in the same room. I got bitten by the computer bug while at school, and this led to a position with computing services, essentially working help desk. Looking back I remember installing Win95 for the first time, and running the wires for my first LAN. Fondest memories were playing with VAX/VMS and sending email bombs to my friends and inadvertently crashing the email server. Opps :-) Learning how to use gopher and seeing my first webpage in 1995 was an experience. My biggest regret is working too many hours and not spending enough time with my friends and missing out on some great events, such as seeing Alice Cooper and Killer Queen. Another big regret is not dating more. ...Expand for more
Workplace I started out working in accounting, I spent three years in the field and hating it. Some classmates from college who work in IT all suggested going into IT saying I can use my skills and talent to make more money. I made the switch in 2000. I also have a strong interest in networking and network security. I am finished my MBA in December 2004, with an emphasis in technology. I spent December 2003 to November 2006 with a European based multinational corporation. I met some absolutely wonderful people in Holland and Brasil who are like family to me. I am currently working as a Project Manager for a defense contractor. Military In May 2001 I enlisted in the US Navy Reserve as an Information Services Technician Third Class. I went to Great Lakes (Great Mistakes to all my fellow shipmates) in March 2002 for boot camp. In the Summer of 2002 I volunteered to serve on temporary active duty with my parent command in Quincy. In March 2003 I transferred to a Naval Coastal Warfare unit in Rhode Island. In November 2003 I transfered to the Air Force Reserve because I would be working in the tech field for the 439 CS in Westover. A few months later over half my squadron was told we had to find a new home because we lost the slots. I am now with an aerial port squadron. T-Minus one year until I can stop drilling and get my weekends back. Side Business: In Winter 2007 I decided to start a website to sell my photographs. It is a work in progress and I'm always late posting photos because I hate the editing and would rather be shooting. This year I started shooting large format and it is absolutely wonderful. I use a field camera and loosely resembles a smaller version of what Ansel Adams used. It is called a field camera.
