Len's Story

My journey in martial arts continued after high school including to the present. My desire to excel in some sport led me to Taekwon-Do in the early 70's and has evolved throughout my life. Some twenty years later, I met the founder of Taekwon-Do, Choi Hong Hi. With his mentoring and support in my training, I was able to reach the highest level attainable in Taekwon-Do, 9th Degree Black belt. Taekwon-Do is not just a sport or self-defense; it is a complete discipline for body, mind and spirit. I can truly say that had Taekwon-Do not been in my life, I would most likely not be here today. The physical strength training kept me healthy. The mental discipline kept me sane, and the spiritual development drove my purpose. I am therefore, a product of my preteen aspirations. A dream that I had to participate in a sport without being put on the bench and told I didn't have enough talent to play. I left Wisconsin behind me and traveled the world. I have but only a few regrets however, my new life and family far outweigh the limitations I had in Marshfield. I miss many of my friends back there and I think about them always. I come back to visit my family there in Marshfield occasionally and sometimes run into an old friend that we went to high school togethe...Expand for more
r. I also unfortunately, hear when one of our friends passes away too. We are all getting older now and the inevitable will soon be upon us also. I do not fear death because I am born again in Christ. I know that for the spirit to be absent from the body it is in the presents of God with Christ as my only redeemer. My last 20 plus years I have been in the health care field. Most of my time was spent in the hospital setting then into the home care however, I ventured into prehospital emergency care and trauma. I teach emergency responders in various organizations how to respond to medical disaster situations. One such organization is the Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.). The cert team has responded to several natural disasters and constantly trains for the inevitable, terrorist treats. Cert is a part or branch of FEMA. I have 5 children living and one deseased. We have 6 grand children and the oldest is now 18. That scares me in a way. I could be Great Grandpa soon.... I would like to see another class reunion sometime. We don't need to wait until the "40" year reunion either. That would be 2014. If anyone is interested, let's get started. With the help of the internet, we should be able to find everybody and arrange a good time and place.
