Lenore's Story

I am currently living in Bowie, Maryland which is located 15 minutes from Annapolis and about 20 minutes from Washington DC. When I left Maine I moved, with my husband, to San Diego where we lived for 3 years. Then we were transferred to the island of Guam. This was during the Vietman war. My husband flew air reconnaissance over Vietnam for the next 3 years. I saw a lot and learned a lot while living there and I have a special spot in my heart for our Vietnam Vets. We then left Guam for an assignment in Brooklyn, NY. Big culture shock! We spent a year in New York City, then transferred to Suitland , Maryland. Here in Maryland my marriage broke up and I was left with nothing - not even a car. So I started working at a bank, then for some car dealerships and finally became an accountant. Through the years I managed to steadily increase my income until i was able to buy my first new car and eventually my townhouse. There were a lot of bumps in the road as I'm sure all of you have experienced and I'm certainly not that girl I was in high school! Thankfully! I have worked in banks, car dealerships, contruction companies, contracting companies, distributing compa...Expand for more
nies and biotech companies. Finally in 2006 I retired. I spent a lot of time refurbishing my home and enjoying the freedom of not having to work. In 2012, after a six week stay in the hospital, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. In 2013 it had matastisized to my liver so I started chemotherapy. I had chemo treatments every two weeks from June 2013 through September 2016. Now I have the treatments every three weeks. My CT Scans have shown no change for all this time and I'm very thankful. I'm self-reliant, drive to my chemo treatments and have mastered the side effects pretty well. My cancer is stage 4 so eventually it will get me or maybe I'll get hit by a car,or maybe I'll get shot. None of us is guaranteed a tomorrow!! Now I stop and smell the flowers, watch the birds at my birdfeeder, look at the beautiful blue sky and thank my Lord for everything he has given me. I am content and at peace and look to help anyone that could use some extra emotional strength. Life can be hard at times, but we always manage to get through it. By the way, my brother Dale, lives in Saco and has five grandchildren. Ronald (Ron) lives in Colorado Springs. Both our parents are deceased.
