Leon's Story

What do I do to relax? Crossword puzzles. Beach days (there's a lot of them in Florida). Reading and writing. My father was my hero, if you could call him that. He did all any man could within his comfort zone to care for and provide for his family. Academic officials did not understand and dismissed him and his intellect, and laid it on me. He was better than that, and so am I. (Now if I could convince the rest of the universe!) Most of my life was as a New Yorker. From Brooklyn I moved to Oswego to go to college. I was not ready, so I moved to Syracuse to work. I returned to Brooklyn to help my dad during recovery from an illness. The whole family moved to property in the woods of the Eastern Catskills (Hudson Valley). I moved to Albany to return to school and work. When my stepson started FSU, (Go, 'Noles!) my family moved to Pinellas County where my wife's family had some familiarity. I am still here, working. IDEA: $100 Million-what to do with it. I would first excavate myself out of debt. Then I would set up a number of interest bearing account cycles that provide a generous weekly income and enough to pay the taxes, and any residual would become part of a contingency account besides. I would also set up similar cyclic accounts for certain members of my family that have shown the proper respect for their mother. I have a number of charities that would benefit from similar accounts providing long-term permanent incomes for sustaining their good works. There are some public and community radio stations, Masonic Lodges and Shrine Hospitals, and a few radio prog...Expand for more
rams whose content, even that which I do not agree, I support the need for them to cover it as they do. I have three words that need definition specific to my understanding: smart, intelligent and wise. "Smart" people get what they want. Their words and voice imply a believability, even more so when they are lying through their teeth. I consider myself "intelligent", a repository of useless information that I can link and compile into a solution with the materials at hand. It bother the "smart" people when I am right, since it implies that the "smart" person might be WRONG (Not what I said, but what they perceived). Someone who is "wise" need not be intelligent (repository of knowledge), or "smart" convincing in the face of evidence), but can see the depth of a situation and can offer profound understanding on minimal information. They may not convince many of their correctness, but their insights move people. If you watch Discovery Channel, you might have seen "Dirty Jobs". I was a wastewater treatment operator. Those who proclaimed their knowing me knew I should work in (I will not use the specific word) fermented excreta. Stinky, smelly (I could tell when certain processes were or were not working properly by the aroma), dirty and messy. Just try mucking out a grease pit. Do-over: I probably would have attended a private school early in life, built up a better academic record to follow me through to high school. People read what was perceived about me, and made assumptions that put me into a social and educational hole I never could dig out of.
