Leona's Story
I've just retired from 12 years as the CEO of the Santa Clara Family Health Plan, a health plan primarily for Medi-Cal, Medicare and Healthy Families members The health plan serves about 110,000 people in Santa Clara County. I am most proud of the fact that we started a program called Healthy Kids, designed for children of low income people who are not eligible for a state/federally funded program (read undocumented, primariiy). housands of children. In Santa Clara County we have raised each year enough funds to provide care for about 12,000 children.
Most of my career has been in health care, in everything from the University of California San Francisco Medical Center in administration to working for the California Legislature as the "expert" on Medi-Cal. However, I still stay in touch with theatre and from time to time appear in a play or once or twice in a brief part in a film. Of course, at almost 74, one has done a great deal.
