This is more than anyone wants or needs to know about me, but was submitted in connection with my law school 50th reunion in June, 2008 LEONARD R. KOFKIN (LAW, 1958) My life picked up considerable speed (and anxiety) with my marriage while attending a Chicago city college; the birth of my first son, Rob, while in the NU business school in Evanston; the birth of my second son, Scott, in NU law school (honestly, while I was attending a ¿Future Interests¿ lecture); and the birth of my daughter, Lori, two weeks before the February, 1958, Bar Exam. On April Fool¿s Day, 1958, I was informed (reliably) that I had passed the exam and I was admitted in Illinois on May 22, 1958. Upon being licensed, I embarked on a career as a union-side labor lawyer, then earning something under $100 per week. After four years, I decided to ¿Go Management¿ with a firm specializing in transportation law, and thereafter for twenty years, most of those years as a partner, I represented numerous trucking companies doing regulatory, employment and labor relations work before administrative agencies and in federal courts In 1978, as critical changes in the transportation regulatory climate loomed, I decided to improvise a ¿back-up¿ career. Correctly anticipating deregulation of the trucking industry, I applied to and was admitted to the Kellogg School of Management from which I graduated with an MM in the class of 1984. Meanwhile, in 1982, I resigned from my partnership and became, for the next fifteen years, ¿Of Counsel¿ in the law firm in which classmates Art Berman, Jimmy Chatz and Alvin Meyers were then engaged.
