Les's Story
School
Those were the days! I miss a lot of things about high school, such as the fun I had in my Spanish classes, taking History class in the trailers with Mr. George, and playing on the golf team even though I was really bad! I remember Mrs. Anderson's great English classes, too. It certainly was a learning experience in more ways than one. And it was a lot of fun!
I always wanted to be a weatherman when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. Me, too. Darn calculus!
I love sports. I play golf still, am a diehard Orioles and Ravens fan, and enjoy playing basketball every so often. I have had three cats since high school, all of which have been ok. But I am a dog person all the way!
I currently reside in Germantown, MD, about an hour from Baltimore. I'd love to move back because this area is way too crowded. Plus, it's so expensive here. But the distance for the Mrs. to go to work would be incredibly bad. When my wife and I got married, it was technically "half-way" between her job and Seton Keough, sort of. Now, my job and hers are exactly half way and we need the same amount of time to get to and from work.
As for my teaching career, I have enjoyed each school that I have been to. My three favorite schools have been Seton Keough H.S. , Bishop McNamara H.S. and my current school, Loudoun Country Day School [a middle school]. I really enjoy teaching kids and relish in their successes. I feel like that I've made some sort of difference. I emulate Mr. George's humor, sarcasm and energy/passion that he had in my Social Studies class in high school.
I'm married with a almos...Expand for more
t 13 year-old child, Justin. Unbelievable he's nearly a teenager and he is in 7th grade now.
I also am Justin's "sitter" in the afternoons. I help him with all of his homework, as well as cook and clean. Kinda like Robin Williams in "Mrs. Doubtfire", I suppose, except I'm better lookin' ! :)
I've had the opportunity to travel and live overseas, in Chile for a year and a half doing missionary work for my church, and have traveled to Mexico, Ecuador, France and Spain. I'm going to France and Spain next spring, taking a school group over during Spring break. And I'm going for free! Nothing like a nice perk for being a teacher.
If I had one or two "do-overs" from high school, it would have been to not act like a ninny and try to be as "cool" as others to fit in. I didn't really fit in with a lot of people. I got picked on because of that, and our vice-principal's daughter, for whatever reason, liked to pick on me. I guess that I was an easy target because I wasn't in her "league", so to speak, and she wanted to make sure I knew that, something like that. But I should have just been myself and whatever would have happened, so be it. And I would have gone to the prom with someone much different....it was a disaster. I thought that she liked me but it turns out that I was her "2nd choice" to go. I have no idea why her first choice didn't work out. I would have been better off going to my prom with a really neat sophomore girl in my Spanish class. She was awesome!
Anyhow, I hope that you remember me as a nice guy, in spite of my actions at times.
I'd love to hear from you.
