Leslie's Story
Life
I left Pascack Valley before my senior year to be an exchange student with AFS (to Belgium) and have kept the same theme in my life since then. I went on to graduate school in linguistics, first at U of Wisconsin-Madison (M.A.)and then at U of Iowa (Ph.D.)and then came to teach at Indiana State University, where I still work in linguistics/TESL. workshops extensively abroad. On sabbatical in 2004 I am working in seven countries (Turkmenistan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, S. Korea, Argentina, and Brazil). My family (husband, Will, daughter Elissa-born 1983, and son, Gordon-born 1989) have inherited the travel bug also. Elissa did her junior year of college in New Zealand, and her junior year of high school as an AFS exchange student to Ghana. Gordon spent his junior year of high school in Vigo, Spain, also as an AFS Exchange Student.
