Leslie's Story

My children make it interesting. Now all teenagers and as full of Joie de vivre as anyone can be. Sometimes I sit and just watch the comings and goings in the house...friends, family, loves...I sit and watch to stay out of the way. With as many people as are sometimes here, you could get hurt if you don't get out of the way. :o) Ten teenagers at one point just last night. No special occassion, just my kids and the pack of friends. It can get loud, but I do love it when they are all here. The laughter and conversation ringing through the house reminding me that God is good and He has blessed me with a great family. For as much as sometimes I "think" my heart and life are lacking something, I can't deny the blessings I have. I gave birth to three great children and along the way God has blessed me with five "spare" children. Eight children.....who would have ever guessed. I had someone ask me why I had "spare" children. I told them spare did not mean extra, but it was a bowling term. Life might not have afforded them the strike, but with help hopefully each one of these kids can pick up the spare and continue the game. At some point they have all needed a place to live for one reason or another and I can't tell a child, especially one of my children's friends that they have no bed, no food, no place to feel secure and rest their head at night. If they were thrown away, I caught them, if they ran away, I gave them safe passage to their next course of life. The reasons for their stay as varied as their personalities, but the need was the same, a safe consistent home, food, clean clothes and for someone to just be there. Some have stayed for years...others for several mo...Expand for more
nths, but they are as mine now as if they had lived here all their life. My love once given is an unconditional promise that lasts forever. Besides, if I have fed, clothed and done as much laundry as I have...I am claiming them...they are mine! Most of my spare kids have been my oldest son's friends. I thought it was just him, but the other two have started a "Hall Family Waiting List." Yes, one has already come to me and asked to be at the top of the list for the next available opening. I wish I had a bigger house as it is we are 5 people in a 3 bedroom, but it works. My kids have told me before that for as bad as they thought they have had it (life) at times, they can't help but admit that others have it worse, because they keep wanting to live here in our messy life. I have a great love and an even greater respect for my biological children. They have opened their hearts and also their home to so many others. Not complaining when finances are thin or it is crowded.....the only complaint is when there is no hot water...but C'est la vie...it happens. I love my children...those born from under my heart and those just dropped off in my heart. Thank you, my kind and gracious Lord for there always being enough, for the energy You give me through them, and for the grace through faith that only You can give. Help me to not grow weary in well doing because I know You know the desires of my heart and in that regard I hear Your voice saying, "Be still and know that I am God". I will wait on You and trust that Your will be done. Thank You for reminding me that although I am sometimes lonely, I am not alone...and with this many children, :o) I am very rarely alone....Thank You!
