Leslie's Story
Well, I don't know if anybody I know will be reading this, but here goes:
After HS, I just worked a bunch of different jobs...some of them quite unusual....none that I particularly liked. A few of them were: Working as a carhop at the A & W Root Beer Drive-In in Grove City and also, The Burger Boy Mainliner out on Livingston Ave., both in 1966. Working at Nicklaus Machine, running a turret lathe and milling machine (I was making washers for helicopters used in the Vietnam War and the owner was my boyfriend, who ended up being my second husband!) Working as a file clerk at NAPA off Dublin Road. Working in the daytime, running the Q-Stik Pool Hall on Harrisburg Pk. and Ransburg Ave. I also got hired for, but changed my mind about, driving a Catering Queen truck (I could barely touch the pedals) and at a gas station pumping gas!!! These are just a FEW of the jobs I had.
At 21 1/2, being pressured by my dad to "get married and get your own place", I got married to someone I shouldn't have, had my first son Mike, in 1969, and divorced, all in short order. I had already been dating a guy before all of that for a couple of years (Roger, the guy who owned the machine shop, above) and we had broken up, but after my divorce, I started seeing Roger again...we eventually married, after 6 years of going together, total, moved to Clintonville in the northend and we had a son, Jeremy. He also legally adopted Mike. After 8 years of marriage, we parted ways as friends, when I was 33 and I eventually met and married my current husband, Tommy, whom I have been married to for 27 years. The third time IS a charm! Together, we had two daughters when I was 36 and 38. So I now have a family from 39-24 years old! I also have nine grandchildren, 3 boys and 6 girls from ages 11 years - 1 year.
I never worked outside of my ho...Expand for more
me (until my youngest daughter was 15; then it was only part-time for 5 years. I was a stay-at-home mom and a housewife all of my life, and I loved it! (I guess with my prior work record, it was the best choice!) I lived in Amanda, OH for 3 years, starting in 1982, then moved back to the Columbus area and have been living in the same big, old farmhouse, just south of Pleasant Corners between Grove City and Orient, for the last 23 years. My ex-husband, Roger, and I have remained friends thru the years and now, he and his wife and me and my husband,Tommy, celebrate all birthdays and holidays together with our combined children and grandchildren, which is wonderful for the kids AND us!
I still keep in contact with the same kids I was friends with back in HS. Some things just never change! I went to the Class of 1964 40th Reunion back in 2004, because some of my old friends were from that class (Ronnie Statczar, Butch Statczar, Roger Mounts, Mike Bragg, Lily Lou Brown, Buddy Toops, Dave Chenowith, Sharon and Margie Ferguson, Chris Koch, Jan Cartwright, John Strasser, Danny Green). Nothing will stop you in your tracks like trying to figure out who ANYBODY is that you haven't seen in 40 years!!! It was a real eye-opener! For some reason, I don't remember when we all got OLD! I never saw so many pot-bellies and bald heads in one place in my whole life....hahahahah. But I enjoyed seeing the ones I knew from back in the day. (And I wouldn't want to know what they thought of ME!!! Hahaha) Nothing is better than old friends...and my old friend and dance partner, Ronnie Statczar, and me STILL managed to do The Stomp to "The Bristol Stomp", just like we did all thru the years, so it was all good!!!
I hope all is great with everybody and that life has treated you well. Good luck and good health in the future!!
