Leslie Dennis:  

God is my strength and salvation. My husband Don and my Mom keep me focused also. My son, and grandchildren are great joys. I know that as long as I have them I will be ok. My mom, my sister Pamela, brother, Steven and myself moved to Wilmington, California from Rockland, Massachusetts in June of 1961. (I was born in Ottumwa, Iowa but we bounced around due to my parents stormy marriage.) We first lived in what was then called Sheridan Gardens across from Scott Park on 252nd St. My sister and I attended Stephen White Jr. High School. After junior high, we went to Banning High until Carson High opened its doors. One thing I remember about Banning was the "stock lines". The guys all standing on each side of the hallway checking "stock"...girls as they walked the halls to classes. I also liked the ivy covered walls. We used to joke that the ivy kept the building from falling down! While at Banning and Carson High I took Modern Dance and Drama Classes. I also took Latin and Spanish classes. ( I still remember the first thing Mr. Weber said at the beginning of Latin I: "Latin is a dead dead language, as dead as dead can be, it slowly killed the Romans and now it's killing me!" I participated in a couple of dance presentations, once at Banning and the other while at Carson. (I was a lot thinner then and hardly filled out the leotard!) In drama class I mostly got to do skits in class...not a very good actress but still loved it...liked doing poetry readings. I actually went to Carson High from when it opened through the 11th grade. (I had my daughter, Rayleen Denise 9/7/64. She has passed away due to complications of juvenile onset diabetes in 1995 at 31. She left 2 sons, Michael now 25 and Jacob now 15.
