Leslie (Sklar) Bernstein:  

I attended Long Beach Poly and graduated in 1956. My later education was at UCLA (Mathematics, with highest honors in 1964 after having 2 of my 3 children) and USC (MS in Gerontology at age 39 and PhD, Biometry/biostatistics at age 42). I married at 18 after 2 yrs at UCLA and put my husband, Saul Bernstein, through medical school at UC San Francisco. Then we moved to Van Nuys while Saul did his residency at Los Angeles County Hospital. After this, we moved around the US courtesy of the US Army. Next, we moved to Sheffield England where Saul did a fellowship and then we resettled in Sherman Oaks in 1970. When our 3 children were old enough to manage on their own i went back to school. After receiving my PhD, I conducted research and taught at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and USC Keck School of Medicine for nearly 30 years. My research has focused on the etiology of breast and other women's cancers and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. At USC, I served as Dean for Faculty Affairs at the medical school and then as Vice Provost for Medical Affairs at the University.
