Lila's Story

Well, having left North Carolina for 35 years there is a lot to tell about my life. I married Frederick (Mac) Maxwell and I have three daughters.....Rhonda, Michelle and Melanie. About Rhonda...she is married to Steven Cusato and lives in Maryland outside of the DC area. Rhonda and Steve have three children...Candy, Tina and Stevie...and one grandchild..Mikey. Oh Mikey looks just like me...lol...blond hair blue eyes. And Rhonda has another grandchild on the way. Michelle is married to Kenny Smith and they have two children....Summer Lynn and Tyler Wayne....they live in Homestead, FL, where we lived before moving back to North Carolina. Then there is our Melanie, the youngest of our lovely daughters.....she is 34, not married, no children, and a Counter Manager for Clinque at Belk in Laurinburg, NC. We are proud of all our daughters and what they have accomplished in their lives. Now....what were we doing all those years out of North Carolina...actually my husband retired from the US Army after 30 years. When I met him he was a SFC in the 82nd Airborne Division. He got out of the army and we moved to MD...after 10 long, long years living in MD he applied to go back into the Army and was accepted. That was in 1981....and we moved to Georgia, then to Germany, then to Oklahoma, then Hawaii, Kansas, New York, Florida, Panama, Florida/Oklahoma, PA, Florida......he retired with the rank of COL in 2005 and we decided to move back to NC in 2007. As for me....I am an artist...At this time April/May 2011 I have a show in Clinton NC at the Victor Small House on College Street. As long as I can remember I have loved drawing and that has not changed after all these years. My life has been far from boring and it is still exciting. We do volunteer work for the local VFW, History Museum, our church and other organizations. We do have animals that also keep us entertained....Apollo is a cross between a ...Expand for more
pit and a lab...he was a stray that chose my husband, we could not ask for a better dog than him. Then there is our little Xena....she is a small calico cat and precious and, yes, she is a Princess Warrior...she takes care of mice and frogs for us. We chose her from the Cumberland County SPCA in 2007 and never regretted it. Rocco is our beautiful Green Wing Maccaw, he talks, kisses and make us happy...we had Coco but poor little Coco passed away at the age of 19 from an illness....he was a Cockatoo that made everybody happy who met him...he talked, laughed, did tricks and just loved his Daddy so much...and Mac loved him just as much. Well after Coco passed we finally decided to get two new birds... both of them are Umbrella Cockatoos....Angel belongs to my husband and she loves him just as much as Coco loved him and she hates me just as much as Coco hated me.....she talks and just cuddles with Mac as much as she is allowed to. Then there is Casper, he is mine and he talks to me and he loves me...he hisses at Mac which make me happy....everything loves him and leaves me....Mac is an animal person and all animals love him....we spend a lot of time in the summer taking care of baby birds that have fallen out of their nests. We live in Salemburg, NC...actually outside Salemburg on Bonnetsville Road. We enjoy living in the country because it gives the dog a big area to run in...and the birds can yell all they want to because we do not have a lot of neighbors. The cat has to stay in the house, I do not trust the wild animals and Xena is very small...I have to protect her. This year Mac and I will celebrate 40 years of marriage....what a feat that is now a days....I feel so lucky to have met my soul mate...life was not always rosey but we worked things out when we had to and I am happy we did. I do hope to hear from former classmates.....give me a call...phone number is listed under both our names....
