Lillian's Story
Post-op boredom and reminiscing about childhood with Barbara (Nunez) Corey, my friend since 1st grade, has brought me here to Classmates.com for countless hours at a time in the past week. This is my story:
I'd like to think that classmates from Marianna Ave Elem remember me as starting off quiet and studious, later to become friendly and fun to be around. I do hope kids forgot that I cried a lot in first and second grade. I remember close friends (a couple of whom have remained my closest friends nearly 40 years later) as loyal, smart, sweet and slightly mischievious in a playful way. My girlfriends were all sweet and fun to be around. My favorite memories with those friends are of countless hours playing on the monkey bars. I remember many of the young boys as decent and kind. All in all, It was a pleasurable experience because so much was learned and I was lucky to have had great teachers to guide and encourage me.
I always wanted to be a wife and mother, as well as writer when I grew up. My family and friends had no clue about my hopes and dreams. As it turns out they were in for a pleasant surprise. One of my ambitions from age seven was to make it out of East Los Angeles, which wasn't as hard to do as I thought. I went on to live in California's Coachella Valley, then did some "growing up" in Tustin, Santa Ana and Irvine, CA. After that, life began to stablize when I returned to the Coachella Valley where my mom still lives.
Years later I did get married and started a family. I've been m...Expand for more
arried to the same guy for nearly 19 years and we have three children, ages 17, 15 and 12 1/2. This has been the longest and most rewarding and challenging thing I've ever done. Friends and family consider this a miracle; who knew? I met my husband in 1990 (blind date), and we were married in 1991. Our babies came very early in our marriage and have filled us with joy ever since. We started our life together in Palm Desert, CA and La Quinta, CA. Job opportunities have taken us to live in The Woodlands, TX, Lanai City, HI and Highlands Ranch, CO, where we've lived for the past 4 years. My husband's current job requires him to live in La Paz, BCS, Mexico. Which is funny because he doesn't even speak Spanish and is not Mexican.
In the meantime my kids and I are here at home in Colorado, however, another move might be in the near future and if it were up to both my husband and I, we would be back home in The Woodland, Texas in a heartbeat. I loved our life there. Our former home was in a lovely community, in the nicest neighborhood with great schools and wonderful churches; we even travel there at Easter just to go to our church there. I miss it everyday; just as much as I miss my family and friends in California. Thank God for frequent visits.
Today, I enjoy developing stories and have written one children's book. Looking to the future, I hope to be a published author someday and I hope to get there by staying the course developing stories.
More later. I hope you've enjoyed my story. ~ Lillian Carilo
