Linda's Story

Hello to all classmates of 1962! What a long time ago and alot of living done by all since 1962. I know that it seems almost like yesterday yet centuries ago, doesn't it? As you all remember I left my senior year at the end of first semester. I did get my diploma. I attended some college. I was blessed with a baby daughter, Lois Sheree, on September 17, 1962. Her life was brief and she was taken to heaven April 2, 1963. On August 17, 1964 I was blessed with a baby boy, Ronald Vincent. His life was also brief. He died November 12, 1964. Both of my babies were born with birth defects. My first husband and I divorced in 1965. Since I was sure that genetics were against my having a biological child, I adopted a baby boy in 1972 and then a daughter in 1978. Both have been the light of my life along with five grandchildren, three girls and two boys. My son lives in Ottawa, Kansas - fifteen miles from me. My daughter lives near Chicago. My grandchildren range in age of 9 down to 2. I remarried a wonderful friend and soul mate in November of 1990. We enjoyed traveling, golf, Kansas State Sports and each other for 18 years. Kenny was my heart. Sadly he was diagnoised with pancreatic cancer January 2, 2007. He and I fought the battle and lost to this horrific cancer. Now all of you are probably thinking that life's events for me have been horrific. Well, I feel that I ...Expand for more
really have been blessed during the past years as I have experience alot of the joys and sorrows of life and feel it has made me who I am today. I realized that we are only promised today and I live one day at a time. I get up every morning and am thankful! I worked in radio sales for a number of years and was sales manager and then general manager of a small market station in Emporia, Kanasas. I loved working in radio and supported my children and myself until they both graduated from college. Radio is a fast paced career and I decided that since most of my peers were dying early - I decided to slow down and change careers. I then went to work at Franklin County Mental Health Clinic with Severe Persistant Mentally Ill and LOVED this population. Interesting and rewarading work. I retired when I was diagnosed with non hodgkins lymphoma in September of 2006 and am now a widow, retired and peacefully enjoying my quiet life. Kenny and I had moved to Pomona Lake for our retirement and I have remained in our home. We loved it here as Kenny was an avid golfer and the golf course was right across the road from our home. It has been a sad year after Kenny's death but I am finally realizing joy slowly returns and memories are precious. I hope all of you are doing well and know that I have thought of all of my high school friends over the years. Feel free to e-mail me! Linda
