Linda's Story

Update July 2023 A big hello to everyone. I hope you are all doing well, staying cool in this heat, and enjoying your summer. We are busy, as usual with house projects this year again. We are hoping to get some travel in soon. Spent our anniversary in Newport, Oregon on the coast. We enjoyed watching the ocean and just getting a different view out the window. Nothing exciting to report on this end. Just keeping busy, have taken up sewing again, and knitting. Life is good, so soaking it all in. Sending my best to everyone. May the rest of 2023 bring all of you peace and happiness. Update: January 2021 Hello, everyone. I do hope you are all staying well and safe as the pandemic continues to unfold. We are both wanting to get our vaccinations and hopefully in the coming months things can return to some semblance of "normal", whatever that will be for us all. The year 2020 turned out to be a "bust". No traveling, no visiting with friends, no lovely dinners out in restaurants, no meeting friends for lunch or coffee. Wayne and I have been doing self-isolation now since the first of March 2020, and we are sure getting tired of it. However, the chance of getting sick keeps us home and behaving ourselves. We haven't been inside a store or Starbucks since March 2020!!!! So glad our area has grocery delivery and curbside pickup. Wayne has spent a lot of time working outside when he can and then writing in his spare time. We are already planning the garden and what new ideas we want to try in the yard. I have been working on some new genealogy charts and making some wonderful discoveries. I am back to the 14th and 15th centuries on some lines, and even found Anne Boleyn in the family tree. That is exciting!! Of course, housework and cooking remains high on my "to do" list. I have discovered bread baking and trying new recipes to also be a fun way to fill my time. Thanksgiving and Christmas were both different this year, but here's hoping they will be back to normal in 2021. Not much fun cooking a turkey for just two people. So, dear friends, stay well and safe. May 2021 be a better year for us all. Sending virtual hugs to everyone!!! Update: September 2020 What a strange year this has turned into. I do hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Now, on top of the virus causing us to stay isolated we now have terrible fires burning all over our beautiful state and causing people to stay inside because of heavy layers of smoke hanging in the air. I, for one, am ready to 2021 and hopefully a new future for us all. No traveling this year. We had a trip planned for California, heading down to to Central California to visit a cat shelter that we help to support. The virus caused that to be cancelled and we have been home ever since. I have been doing a ton of house cleaning, organizing, and interior painting. Wayne has been working in the yard, weeding and putting in a new fire pit area in the backyard. The outside work has come to a halt with the fires. I do wish everyone well. Stay safe and healthy. Here's hoping that 2021 finds us back traveling, making memories, and enjoying our retirement. Peace and love to all. Update: Fall 2018 We had a wonderful summer, staying home for a change, and working on the house and yard. The garden was bountiful this year and the marigolds blooming their little hearts out. Wayne spread 40 yards of fresh bark dust and the new maples and ginkgo are growing rapidly. Their leaves have been a beautiful color this fall. I love the fall and all of the beautiful trees. I became a Reiki Master this fall as well and am enjoying my continuing Reiki practice. We are hoping to do another trip next spring, and wil...Expand for more
l make plans as the snow flies this winter. It will either be a trip to Napa wine country or a drive across Canada to Quebec and then home across the northern tier states, perhaps both, we shall see. I hope everyone is well and enjoying their retirement time. We are trying to stay busy and healthy so we can do the things that make us happy. Wishing everyone the best, Linda Update: Early 2018 I am lazy, so instead of deleting and starting over, I am adding an update to the beginning. We finally made it to the parks in Utah. Last spring, 2017, we drove to Oklahoma to visit a cousin of mine I connected with on Ancestry.com. We had a wonderful visit there, experiencing a tornado and run to the shelter, as part of the stay. We don't get thunder and lightning here like that!!!! Thrilling but scary at the same time. Took a trip to Crystal Bridges in Arkansas and spent a day at the Cherokee Interpretive Center in Tallaquah, Oklahoma. On the way back home we visited Mesa Verde, Four Corners, Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon, and the parks in southern Utah (Bryce, Canyonlands, Arches, and Zion). Amazing places!! Had the best steaks we have ever eaten in Amarillo, Texas. We are looking forward to an amazing summer here at home, tending the garden and relaxing on the deck. There are several house projects in the mix and some landscaping plans as well. We both remain well and semi-healthy, just the rigors of being in our 70's now. We send our best to everyone!! Hugs, Linda (Wayne, too) After graduation I attended Centralia College and Central Washington State College, and had my first teaching job in Vancouver, Washington. I later taught in Kirkland, WA and Kaiserslautern, Germany. Upon returning from Germany I again taught in Vancouver until my retirement in 2001. I married Wayne Saunders (class of 1965) in 1979. I enjoy reading, going to plays in Ashland, the opera, visiting the Oregon Coast, playing mah jongg in two groups and spending time with friends. I enjoy music, especially classical and jazz. I recently became a level two Reiki Practitioner in the tradition of Usui Reiki, and will receive my Reiki Master certification in January 2016. I also enjoy traveling and seeing new things. I have traveled in Europe several times, spent many summer vacations on Kauai, Hawaii and spring breaks in Arizona. When Wayne retired we did an East Coast trip visiting Savannah, Charleston, and the Florida Keys, where we swam with dolphins. We also enjoy Napa, San Francisco, and the Redwoods. Canada is another of our favorite places and we enjoy visiting friends there. Last year we did an 18 day cruise through the Panama Canal, going from Seattle to Ft. Lauderdale. In Ft. Lauderdale we rented a car and drove back to Vancouver through the southern states. The total trip was six weeks and we had a fantastic time seeing wonderful things along the way. It was quite the adventure. We also did another driving trip to see Montana, S. Dakota, Wyoming, and Utah. Lots of adventures on that one too. We would like to return to Montana and also see the National Parks in southern Utah. Perhaps next year. I do get back to Centralia once in a while and have taken an active interest in the restoration of the Fox Theater. I also subscribe to the Chronicle on line so I can keep up with what is happening in Lewis County. Our goal is to stay healthy so we can continue to do the things we love. 2016 will find us in Canada on a driving trip, Ashland, Oregon for more plays and the Oregon Coast. We are hoping to spend Christmas in Victoria, BC if the weather holds. Of course, we are always planning new adventures. My best to everyone!!
