Linda's Story
After marrying Lt. Lee Dixon and moving to Phoenix, AZ I worked for Mt. Bell for 13 years starting as a service rep and then becoming a Yellow Page Sales Rep until 1982. In 1977 after a failed marriage to Lee we divorced and I met the love of my life Robert Gordon and we married in 1978. Two children Christian and Lydia were born in 1979 & 1980 and I quit my YP job to be able to stay home with my children. Unfortunately in 1982 my mother Kay was murdered and I became the estate representative and for the next 7 years did that and raised my children with my husband in Strawberry Arizona. We started a refuse business and were active in our community with Kiwanis, Girl Scouts and the Republican party. We moved to Loma, Colorado in 1990 and started a new life in Colorado. We felt a calling to go to Montana to become family teachers for a boy's group home at St. Labre and lived almost two years on the Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Ashland, MT. The job was very consuming and took a toll on our children and stressful to us. We only found out later that Crow Management was in charge on the Cheyenne reservation and that became a problem later. We did become Certified through Father Flanagan's Boys Town Program and we were taught how to handle a lot of the conflicts with the boys. We were successful with our 5 youth but left and returned to Loma, Colorado with our children...Expand for more
now in the 7th grade. I worked as a phlebotomist, biller and successfully finished my college degree from Colorado Christian University in 1996. So I have a BS in Management. My daughter Lydia is also graduating from CCU in management. Since 2007 I have been my husbands caregiver and spent time at home instead of working outside the home. Made a trip to Hawaii in 2013 and a emergency trip to Florida in 2014 to visit my daughter and grandsons and my sister Cheryl Garbart. Unfortunately, I lost my baby sister in Jan.2015 to Stage 4 lung cancer. My son Christian returned from Florida in 2012 and is trying to get a full time job in plumbing. We also were therapeutic foster parents from 1998 to 2005. We adopted our son Cody and he's been a blessed addition to our family. He is getting married this year. Life has been laughs, hard times, good times and trail changes along the way. Robert and I celebrated "37" years of marriage this year(2015) and we continue to love Grand Junction and the amenities the city offers. I love the mountains, largest flat top mesa in the world, the Colorado National park with it's beauty and the city itself. We can go anywhere with relative ease. I last visited Phoenix in 2005 in October. Only time to go to that state even though we lived there 20 years. Would love to hear from anyone that would like to chat. God Bless and have a great year.
