Linda's Story
Life
Yes, I was the quite one in school, red hair that I now cherish. Worked over 6 yrs at Florida Natl Bank of Opa Locka (wouldn't go there now). Moved to Tampa after marrying Jim McDermott in 1973. I became a Flight attendant for a small airline and after a few months I decided to go back to banking. Moved to West Palm Beach then to Jupiter where I have lived since 1986. My husband was an Insurance Agent. I went back to being a Head Teller, then several supervisory positions while still going to college at night. I kept in touch with Debbie Berry, and Paul Titus, old neighbors and school friends
I was Asst. Vice President of First American Bank, in charge of Branch Banking teller and new account operations. In 1982, I wrote a teller manual then left that Nov to give birth to my daughter in 1982, after 9 years of marriage. I was so proud! 9 months later I returned to work as Branch Manager in Jupiter, Fl. In 1987 I left banking when I had my son, Michael. In 1990 is went to work for West Palm Beach Police as a dispatcher, becoming a trainer for 6 yrs. Then moved on to manage the Budget and in 2016 became the City of West Palm Beach Budget Manager. While many friends speak of retiring, I am getting promotions and have no plans to retire anytime soon.

many friends from many walks of my life.
College
College for me was always at night while working full time during the day.
I completed my Bachelors in Public Administration in 2004 and in 2009 my Masters in Public Administration both from Barry University (Palm Beach County campuses).
Workplace
14th year as Budget & Finance Manager at West Palm Beach Police, with almost 20 years at the department. I was in Banking for 17 years, since high school as a part time bookkeeper at Florida National Bank, then Head Teller, Supervisor of Return Items, Audit Officer, Bank Manager and Asst. Vice President. Banking was very good to me. After my second child in 1987, I stayed home three years, then wanted a new focus. The police department offered a good retirement and benefits package and I started working for WPB police August 1990 as a 911 operator and call taker trainer. Now I manage $48 million of government funds, grants and forfeiture accounts. I love public speaking and budget presentations. Analysis and managing projects are my accomplishments. Employee of the Year twice and many other honors. I am a trained emergency manager, working during the hurricanes and with FEMA. I love training others, it makes me a better manager and supports teamwork.
