Linda's Story

Life I was married in 1969. Became Mom to two beautiful daughters. Moved to Rockland County in 1978. My older daughter got married in 1996. She and her husband gave me an adorable grandson who was born in October 1999 and a beautiful granddaughter born in July, 2003 and another grandson born in December 2006. My younger daughter graduated 5/00, cum laude, from SUNY Geneseo, with a degree in Special Education. She completed her masters in 2006, was married in December 2005 and had her first son in November 2006 and her second son in March 2009. I was widowed in 2001. I retired at the end of 2002 and am enjoying adjusting to my new life of freedom. I have done some traveling in the last few years and am involved in volunteer Bible education. My violin broke several years ago, but some of my fondest memories are of Mr. Jandorf, in JHS 93 orchestra who I spoke to in 2001 and saw in July 2005, shortly before he died. I sold my home of 27 years and moved into a 55+ community where my life is simpler. Now in 2017, I am and have been experiencing some of the negative effects of being a senior citizen. I had foot surgery in 2015 and am still suffering some of the effects of a less than perfect surgery. I will be having surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome on 5/16/17. I suffer from spinal stenosis, a torn meniscus in my right knee, severe sleep apnea, etc., etc., So I am trying to adjust to my life of more pain and less activity. I pray for balance all the time. Other than that, its all good. One day at a time!! In June 2017, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. I had 4 rounds of chemotherapy. I was supposed to have 6 but I became so weak and sick that the docto...Expand for more
r decided that 4 was all I could handle. In December 2017, I had a mastectomy. Now in December 2018, I am doing well. I continue to take medication every day and will for at least 5 years to keep the cancer from coming back. I have not regained all my strength so I do what I can. As I said before, one day at a time. Recently I reconnected with two of my very good friends from Junior high and high school. We met for a three hour lunch and had the time of our lives. We promised to do it again and not wait so long! Fast forward to 1/31/21. I did get together a couple of times with those good friends from JHS 93 and Cleveland. Our last outing together was a trip to Ridgewood where we visited meaningful places in our lives. It was a wonderful day. Then, just about 1 year ago, Covid-19 entered our lives. Don't have to go into detail about how we all have been blind-sided. I and my family so far have managed to steer clear. Not so fortunate for several people I know. Too sad. Meantime, as I have said numerous times before, I'm taking one day at a time. I am awaiting the fulfillment of the Bible's promise that our Creator will "wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away...Look! I am making all things new...Write for these words are faithful and true." - Revelation 21: 4, 5. I know this time is close because we are experiencing the fulfillment of another scripture. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 tells us what would take place in the "last days". We are there. I recently celebrated 5 years cancer-free after my bout with breast cancer. Taking one day at a time, one day at a time!
